Just checking the Baffin/Landcut reports on the home page. I know there is a lot of water in the bay right now, but man this is crazy! |

And while I'm making silly remarks...
As one of the "loyal readers" of a local writer I think this definitely needs more attention.
And I quote, "Remember, its a shrimp eat shrimp world out there folks."
And don't you forget it. |

Nice. Seems like wind was 5-10 for a few days last week. Care to share the gory details? Inquiring minds want to know. |

Like Ralphie I may have risked overplaying my hand on the tuna in Baffin, " Flick says he saw some grizzly bears near Pulaski's candy store!" _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

With these stories maybe we should check if there was another chemical contamination of the city water supply. Something is going on. |

| Last year as I was paddling across a flat in Baffin, I noticed a strange pair of fins that kept breaking the surface, so I paddled closer to investigate. It was a manta ray about 6 feet across, just cruising along like it was his everyday hangout. |

Sorry took so long to respond but ive been on a tpwd hunt and not on here.
Sorry i havent figured out posting pics here since the old pic host stopped. It was a great trip! 60 hours with 15 people. I think we ended up with 41 yellowfin, probably averaged around 80 lbs and big fish was 141 lb I believe. Had 15 nice mahi. Mix of other things including almaco jacks, vermillion, several types of grouper and a few barrel fish. I'm ready to go back!!! |

Hiya!,
I remember some 15 years back when a guide pulled 200 lb mola mola (oceanic sunfish) up at the Billings boat ramp on his trailer. I asked why? He said he saw it in the intracoastal water way and thought it was sick. He threw a rod out and snagged it to let his client reel it in. I asked....was it just floating along with the current. He said yes. Did you see any movement from its fins? He said yes. I told that's normal for that fish. They aren't normally found in the bays, but they move so slow they are at the mercy of the currents. After making him feel bad for killing it I suggested to him to contact tpwd. They would be interested in it. Back of my mind I was hoping they would give him a ticket for keeping a snagged fish.
FISH ON!!,

made me look - their primary diet is jellyfish - enough right there we should love them.
Largest oceanic vertebrate, largest specimen 5000 lbs.
They float on the surface on purpose, because they're so prone to parasites, seabirds will land on them to graze on their parasites. |

BUM speaks the truth, and I have evidence of said Mola at Billings.
[All identities have been hidden to protect the innocent]
Turns out, they had asked about the State Record for this fish, but after the story about snagging it, it was DQ'ed!!!
Oh, and the part about them being slow and floating on the surface. That's a myth. They do that to warm up, after diving down to great depths for feeding, where the temperatures are wicked cold. I've personally seen a Mola WAY bigger than the one in the picture, breaching like a mullet would, multiple times in a row. It was on a BP Platform, about 100 miles out of Galveston. |
