I'm headed to Cabo San Lucas in August. Has anyone fished there?
Thanks for any advise other than "Don't drink the water". |

I've been many times. We always fish with the Pisces Fleet on the Rebecca. http://www.piscessportfishing.com
I think we've been skunked three times in around 30 trips.
Not the fanciest boats in Cabo (check Picante Fleet for that) but they know where the fish are. |

I have gone almost every year since 1990. Pices is great, multiple boats to choose from. Go down to the marinia right off Plazas Las Glorious and look around if you can be there between 11 and 1:00 you can see what is hot at that time - should be tuna and dorado. You definatly want to book a day or two before.
Take a pack of cigs (Marlboro Reds) for the deck hand and give them to him that am it goes a long way in making sure the baits get rigged perfectly.... also the tacos and tamales you can buy from the vendors in the am are excellent.
Have fun! |

Thanks for the info guys.
How fare out do most of the boats go?
Regarding the pangas, what do you usually catch out on them?
Also is the any must do's in Cabo you recommend?
Thanks again. |

Cabo Magic runs a really nice operation. I can speak very highly of Tommy (the owner) He always treats us very well when we are over there. I personally like the "flagship" a 35 Bert named Cabo Magic. Hector, the captain, is a Marlin junky. It is really fun to actually sight cast to them.
As far as distance to run, we caught our biggest striped marlin with 10 miles of the beach (220 pounds), and have caught several "stripey's" within just a couple miles of the beach.
The pangas are neat trips. Next time over, we are going to run the panga and chase Roosterfish (strictly to add yet another spp. to the trophy room)
The guys at Cabo Magic are great about taking measurements and plenty of photo's for you to have a replica done.
As far as the things to do------
we really enjoy eating at Langusta Loco. If you want to take your fish there, they will prepare it for you. I personally prefer taking the mahi and having it prepared in several ways. Mahi Vera Cruz, Garlic Mahi, etc.
They also have really good scallops.
If you would like, shoot me a pm and I can send you photos of our trips, the boat, etc.

Regarding how far the boats go out, it all depends on the fishing. I've caught marlin a mile from the Arch and as far out as 25 miles. Depends on where the fleet is catching them at that time. That's the beauty of Cabo. You don't have the long boat ride. I'd guess that 90% of the marlin I've caught down there were actually sight casted. You troll your lure spread around until a)something takes a lure, or b) you see a marlin just kind of "sleeping" on the surface. Throw them a caballito or mackeral and they wake up, change colors and go after it. It's really cool.
I haven't fished on a panga yet, but I'd like to. I really want to catch a Roosterfish.
I don't think you'll have any problems finding things to do down there. I'd spend at least one day on Medano Beach hanging out at the Mango Deck or the Office. They're right next door to each other. Gotta hit Cabo Wabo at least one (or every) night. Squid Roe is built for speed. I'd also like to throw a plug out for the Latitude 22 Road House Restaurant (hence, my screenname). The Croatian roasted Prime Rib is outstanding. |

The wife and I spent a week there...........I fished every day we were there!
I waited until all the boats that were chartered were gone, and then bartered for a trip. It worked every time....and was considerably cheaper.
We caught blue marlin, stripers, dorado & tons of yellow-fin tuna.
My favorite was the ponga boats, catching roosters and sailfish. What a blast out of a small boat!
Enjoy and have fun! |
