Carlos, we've thought about it and rejected it. If we approach a camp where we're outnumbered, the inhabitants are there deliberately, and they've up 'til then landed more beers than fish, chances are we'll be lucky to escape with no more than a few cuts and bruises.
I once had a kid point a shotgun at me when I told him it was illegal to discharge such in city limits, much less to shoot seagulls, at Lakeview Park. Decided to let law enforcement do the face-to-face informing from then on.
Informing fools they've broken the rules in the middle of nowhere is a job for uniformed law enforcement officers who are packing and can call for backup. Just take photos and pass them on to the pros. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

While it is not very courteous to block the road, if you are past the 4x4 sign you should have enough capability to go around a camp. I used to scoff at people who blocked the road, but after getting very close to run over on several occasions where people went right through our camp at over 50mph, I will ALWAYS be blocking the low road. If you cannot get around, you shouldn't be there. It is a shame but it is the only way to slow some people down. I won't even take my dog sown the beach with me anymore because of the lack of courtesy from drivers. Just my opinion but you WILL be slowing down around my camp. _________________ Sam

we were at the 6mm with about 5 trucks, tents, trailer and were placed between the high and low roads....what I hated was how "courteous and slow" people would drive until RIGHT IN FRONT OF CAMP, then they would rev up and speed away. Thank goodness the road was wet or we would have sand everywhere. This happens EVERY time, one way or another, we go to PINS.
As for a report, we did catch a variety of fish in the surf...20" redfish, 14" black drum (put it back) a few pompano, 26" blacktip shark in the first gut, which was huge (the gut, not the shark), several skipjacks and of course, plenty of whiting. _________________ No matter where you go, there you are.... |

Earlier in the thread, I wrote that I'd forwarded the message with the pictures to the PINS superintendent. tunakilla, your post has been forwarded there, too.
Just my opinion, but if you block the road in the future some ranger will be slowing down to give you a ticket. Thanks to your post, you can forget about telling a federal judge you didn't know about the rule. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

Living up to your name I see. As for getting a ticket, all the rangers that pass my camp are more concerned about what we are catching than giving me any tickets for blocking the roads. Thanks for forwarding that post, I'll be sure to tell all the rangers, most of whom I know on a first name basis, that I'm good friends with you. _________________ Sam

come on, is this what it has come to, fisherman turning against eachother, even on the boards.....
i guess since TH turned you in TK, you could always follow up with a discrimination argument, i mean, you can't just turn in the person blocking the road, what about the trench diggers, the people that fail to give right away, etc.....
this is not what something like this supposed to happen, divided we fall...
i posted my reasons for also blocking the road SOMETIMES, but i forgot to mention that someone almost ran my daughter over speeding down the beach, last year........
if she is with me or i feel unsafe, you can bet my truck will be there too. _________________ Trophy whitetail and exotic hunts on some of the finest ranches Texas has to offer, www.mcoutfitterstexas.com

obsessed, while I sympathize with your reasons for blocking the road, two wrongs won't make a right. By pointing out the rules here and on other threads and by passing the pictures and words of scofflaws on to the authorities, we do the best we can to educate those who don't know about those rules and to encourage the authorities to enforce them better.
Anyone who's been a member of the US armed forces or civil service will remember taking an oath to uphold the laws. That means reporting a suspected violation of those laws to the proper authorities and assisting those to do their jobs. The oaths don't have expiration dates.
There's also no monopoly on reporting blocking, trench digging, failure to yield, speeding, etc. Those who break the rules to do these things have turned against the rest of us. Everyone who wants to make the beach experience safer, feel free to use the email addy with your reports and especially your photos of violations to:
pais_superintendent@nps.gov
After 3 emails to the PINS authorities in 2 days, I expect they're watching this board, anyway, so keep those pix and horror stories coming here, folks. _________________ The Trash Heap Has Spoken!

Let me go into more detail about how I park on the beach. I'm really not trying to stir the pot here. I park so that you must go on the west(dune) side of my truck. I may not be blocking the low road, or I might, but you will definately go on the dune side of me. That is the only way for me to be safe down the beach. My girlfriend was almost wasted by a large truck(a PINS regular) who decided not to slow down a bit through our camp. Ever since, I have hugged the shore when I fish the surf. If that warrants a ticket, then sign me up. Sorry Tyler, I will stop now. _________________ Sam

Sorry guys but I did not intend to start a ruckus, I just wanted to point out that that this is not the way to park on the beach. There was very little room for error on the dune side to get by and if an individual was to get stuck while trying to go around this camp it would have blocked traffic totally. Point is think about the “what if “ when setting up your camp like, can others get by with little to no trouble, am I to close to the water in case the tide comes up, etc….. Bottom line is think about what your doing and how will it effect others. Be courteous and safe while enjoying the great outdoors!

Good or bad, pros or cons, right or wrong, it really makes no difference. ANY attention like this is only fuel for THEM to have the beaches shut down from driving. Then what?? Happened almost everywhere else in the country.. Texas is next. _________________ "Growing Older, But Not Up!!" |

Yes which is why everyone must mind their P's and Q's if we want to continue driving on our beloved seashore. It just takes a few rogues to ruin it for everyone. |
