Ok, what kind of reels are you using ? How far out are you going ? This looks like it could be reel trouble !

I run a pair of Release (now Seigler) SG reels. They're tough, made in the USA and light.Tthat shark to the left was caught on one.

I fish from 2 to 8 miles out, usually 3-5 miles, and I paddle from one structure to another to find fish. I put in 250-350 miles offshore each season, usually paddling 10-25 miles in a trip. It's not for everyone, and you have to prepare and keep your head in the game. Sharks are commonly around, but rarely "exciting" beside the kayak ...although they occasionally do eat half of a fish before it gets to the kayak. I catch some pretty large sharks too, but by the time I have them at the kayak for release they aren't a problem.

What a way to get away from the crowds.
Holiday weekends and summertime are hard to find some solitude.

Water looks great.

Thanks guys, it was a great day to be on the water!

...and although I still enjoy a little Rage Against the Machine from time to time, I'm finding a lot of peace on the water just quietly catching fish and enjoying the scenery. The video of me getting hooked by the giant kingfish took place the same morning. THAT was a bit of a rage moment... but I was the machine being raged against. It still hurts every time my finger bumps a hard surface. Laughing
