Bluff rats, we have confirmation for the next litter critter out in the Bluff. Saturday July 22nd and the Ronnie Polston County Building, there will be 4 roll off boxes for our use to dispose of brush and other bulky items.
We have volunteers but by all means, anyone wanting to come and help out is welcome. I'll have an icechest full of water and gatoraide, and there is a shaded area you can sit at in between people dropping off items.
Please adhere to the city's rules for excluded items. we've fought hard for the last 2 years to get this service, so please make sure not to bring any prohibited items. here's the list from the city.
note: I've had questions about the construction debris, and residents that are throwing away a couple fence boards or 2x4's are not a problem. They just do not allow commercial contractors to use the litter critter as a free dumping source.
PROHIBITED ITEMS:
Appliances, tires, household hazardous waste, construction materials, dead animals, flammable or hazardous materials, ammunition, asbestos.
Household hazardous waste consists of items such as anti-freeze, solvents, brake fluid, transmission fluid, batteries, cleaning solvent, polishes, oven cleaner, pool chemicals, paint, paint thinner, paint stripper, spray paint, weed killer, pesticides, insecticides, sprays, dusts, poisons, gas, motor oil and filters.
Construction materials are defined as sheet rock, shingles, lumber, fencing, concrete, brick, rocks, stones, dirt, soil. |

Thank you for taking the lead on this.
I'm sure I will have something to drop off. |

fortunately, we got a little more lead time for this event. Ideally, we'd like to have this twice a month, but ultimately that will be up to the city whether they will fund it.
I believe there is a cost savings for this program compared to the bulky pickup.
Instead of the city paying drivers and operators to move house to house to pick up these items, they drop off the boxes, and the waste comes to them.
come by and drop off your old crap. |

and hopefully it will make Ironmanstan's life easier, as word gets out, people might not illegal dump so much...
however, and I can already see it, people will associate that parking lot with the litter critter, and you will have people "pre-disposing" of items there... be ready for that...

I got a call today from a guy who is in a 4 wheel drive club. He is going to get his group together on july 22 to align with the litter critter event and go around the area and focus on a couple bad spots where we have illegal dumping.
If you guys have seen a spot that's bad, let me know. They want to tackle something substantial. |
