Went down to Port Mansfield last Wednesday through Sunday. Fished North, South, and East of Port. Very windy! Trout and Redfish were a miss but we did find some convicts. Put out a leftover fire and came across a 25" trout that had to have been hit by a boat. The trout was still fresh and was grilled that night. First ever Road/Flats kill we picked up and not let go to waste. The eyes were clear and the gills were red. I managed to pick up a 24" trout. Plenty of finger mullet in the cuts of the Kennedy Ranch where we usually find bait. The Red Snapper were given to us by a boat at the jetties that borrowed a bucket from us to take out water they were taking on in their battery box. Thanks for the Snapper. Soooooo ready to go back!

It would be really fun to launch there and fish all the way to Arroyo city or Port Isabel.

Looks like a fun trip even though the fish were not completely cooperative. I fished down that way for the first time back in September and had a lot of fun. I put in at Bluffs Landing and ran all the way to South Padre to a condo on the water some buddies and I rented. We fished from there up to Port Mansfield. Lots of good areas to fish around there.

Man that sounds awesome to go all the way down from Bluffs Landing. Yeah I used to go down to Mansfield twice a month but that has since dwindled since the kids came along. But I try to get down there as often as I can with the family. This was my annual "guys only" trip I do twice a year or when the wife permits Rolling Eyes, one in April and one in October. I just love it down there cause it's so desolate at times and less boat traffic. We had a cabin there at the mouth of the landcut since 1987 and prior my dad had a cabin at Marker 15 in the landcut. We sold it last August because I didn't have the time or the money to rebuild it. It's been killing me ever since. That is the only fishing I knew because that is the only place we went when we went down to the coast. My parents would take me as a baby and I continued to go down there cause I love the area, I'm 45 now. A long time fishing that area.

Yeah it was a fun boat ride down minus a hiccup or two. We are planning on making it at least a yearly venture. I hear ya about the kids. I have a 3 and 6 year old that are a first priority but I/and or we manage to get out on the water whenever we get the chance. Now that my youngest is three he is about the age I can start taking him to the cabin with me. Sorry to hear about the sale of your cabin. I know that had to be a hard decision. Ours is North of Baffin (Yellow land cabin with the long pier that runs toward KRS). Seems like everyone I know or meet knows it as the yellow cabin (even though their are several) and uses it as a landmark. If you and your buddies need a closer pit stop or spot to stay give me a shout. I'm always looking for an excuse to go fishing and meet new people that enjoy the great outdoors like I do. Very Happy
