Last night the city revealed that 2, or possibly 3 chemicals were released into the city water system from an industrial source, such as a refinery. They have NOT released the names of the chemicals, but are recommending NO USE of the city water syste. No bathing, no showering, no toothbrushing. Schools are closed, and I'm sure some restaurants, etc, will close soon.
Post Aransas and Portland are not affected, but Kingsville is affected.

Can't believe it. Now we do want to go to Mexico for our water. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |

I'm not buying that it just happened last night......
There have been at least 3 hydrants around the Bluff that have been running into the streets for at least a week, NONSTOP! |

More than three. There's three alone in my area that run 24/7 and my water pressure is extremely low. |

The whole "it is a secret" thing needs to be blown wide open with some lawyers representing citizens, instead of representing the City and the parties responsible for the accident.
When our water bill money and our tax dollars go to the City, the state's TCEQ, and the fed's CDC, how can they keep the identity of the responsible parties, the timeline of the occurrence(s), and the name of the chemicals under wraps? |

News Channel 6 just showed Kim W with city saying that the "Safety Data Sheet" was available, and an estimated 3 to 24 gallons "of the product" has been released into the water system.
an MSDS is a Material Safety Data Sheet,, required of companies and agencies handling any product that could possibly be hazardous.
So we should hear what the "product" is soon.
And she stated that there was only one chemical, not the 2 or 3 chemicals as stated earlier
Update-- The news now says it was an "asphalt emulsifier": Indulin AA-86

I had a feeling something screwy up was when I noticed that 4 separate times this year I have had the exact same water consumption on my water bill. Recently from September, October and November. I'm impressed with my consistency but damn, I'm not that schedule and detail oriented to do the exact same thing every month... _________________ -Pat |

Yes, talking to one of the emergency services guys for Valero (where this company rents space) there is one water line that splits into three. One goes to Ergon, one goes to some building on Valero's property and the third just keeps on going past the facility, probably into one of the other refineries. It was noticed when Valero employees found a sheen on water out of the tap.
I don't see why they shut down the entire city for this, but hey, hysteria.
The bad news is, Ergon will more than likely just go bankrupt and leave Valero holding the lawsuit bag. |

The first thing I did this morning was take a shower and drink a glass of water. Then I turned on the tv 📺. Not too worried. Spent 30 years out at the base still alive, alive, alive, alive,.........what was I talking about? _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Even better - flush the contaminated water into the bay and let the fish stew in it. No additional seasoning needed. _________________ Gary J
