Well this weekend was definitely a struggle, but we came out of it OK!

Loaded up 14 excited anglers at 7PM to head south to the end of the world! On the way down, discovered that the cabin AC had decided to breath its last breath Sad So Everyone had a difficult time getting any sleep in on this trip.

Arrive at 1230 to my favorite rock west of the gardens to fish, anchor up and get fishing. There were very nice b liners to be caught but there was nothing fast about getting them into the boat. Most people got close to their 20 fish 2 day limit of 2-4 lbers. The last time I had fished this spot a year ago, the snapper hadn't really found it yet, well that changed! Also, The newly discovered endangered amberjack must all be hiding here. Without trying for AJ we probably messed with close to 200 of them and probably 20+ would be keepers even with the new stricter size limits.

At day break we pulled up to our first shrimper and started tuna fishing. Long story short, there was some very heavy tide, and we couldn't keep the schools with us for very long. To say the least, it was a very tricky tough bite until 4 pm when we headed home from our 14th boat to fish.

Trip total 52 tuna and around 260 nice b liners, and 14 very very tired fishermen! Anyway we will be doing this trip again Oct 8 if anyone is interested hopefully the conditions will be a bit more favorable.

DD .... nice report, thanks for sharing.

This boat and crew is always a real hoot to go out with.

But to compare these trips with a floater trip is a little unfair .... to me anyway.
Blackfin, AJ, etc. are a ton of fun to catch and these 24 hr. trips are well worth the money but once you have had the experience of a 60 - 120 lb. Yellowfin blow up on your topwater lure then you would see what I am talking about. It's hard to explain.

i have experienced it, multiple trips and fish! My first trip back to the floaters this year will be the end of October! Smile

I wasn't trying to compare because it is different. i do believe this might be a good alternative for someone who can't afford the time or money for a floater trip! Or for someone who isn't quite sure they want to do a 48+ hour trip!

The 24hr would be good to get your "feet wet" before diving into a 48hr.
