I have a 2 stroke Tohatsu I'd like for a mechanic have a good look at. Does anyone know anything about Texas Watercraft in CC? They look to be the closest Tohatsu dealer.

Post a pic of it. I had a 40 Tohatsu sold it with a aluminum boat a few years back. Is the tilt locking up? Best outboards ever built as far as I'm concerned.

Well the oil tank is full of old oil I need to drain out and if it's a good idea, I want to disconnect and bypass it. The motor just has bad gas that I need to replace and restart but I want to get a good analysis of the motor before trusting it to the land cut.
The motor has always been mounted on a 15'6" Bay Hawk. Just bought the rig from a guy in Rockport off Craigslist. Coastal Marine is a little too far for me to drive for repairs and want to know if anyone has something nice to say about Texas Watercraft in CC. |

Ok here's the story.........The motor started before I bought it on Friday. On Sunday I tried to start it and it would crank but not fire off. The gas in it is over a year old and I should have drained it out but didn't. I primed it into the engine about three times before I decided to stop. I figured if it started once it would again. Bad decision I guess. My battery is a brand new marine (500 crank amps) and the bulb got firm when priming the engine. I left the boat at my camp, and before I came home, I unhooked the gas line and let the gas leak out of the carbs with the little set screws at the bottom of the bowls. I couldn't reach the bottom bowl since it's so far down in the frame. So that's where I am at the moment. Any suggestions?

whoops.....um, yeah.....
disconnect the gas line from the motor and drain the tank.....you can either set up a siphon through the tank fill, or get the neighbor kid to sit there and squeeze the bulb and pump it all out (take the fitting off the end of the hose where it plugs into the motor)....there is a thread on here about what to do with old gas....
put some fresh gas in the tank, and then pump the lines clean with the bulb....that parts done...
pull those screws out of the bottom of the carb bowls, and fill them up with carb cleaner, put the screws back in......let it sit for a day....unhook all the gas lines and change the filter to a new one....clean your spark plugs....it should likely work from that....
to remove the oil tank (and start mixing your own gas)....remove the oil tank....one of the oil lines goes from the tank down to a little housing that includes a gear inside of it....remove all that stuff, and pull the brass gear out of the motor....plug the end of the oil line that goes to the carbs....you'll need to fab a cover over the space where the gear was....you may have to ground one of the wires that goes to the top of the tank as it is a low oil alarm....

They have no real factory certified techs. If the "pro-staffer" says they do, hes lieing. |

I had the same motor They make an off set screw driver just for those hard to reach items both flat and Phillips.

true that...you can also use a wobble extension on a socket set, or a box end (yeah, it's tight)....likely a 10mm....or a stubby screwdriver, or a shaved down dime and a pair of pliers (hey, I'm a bluff rat....what do you expect?)
