Checking the Bob Hall temp record, the surf went from ~86 F to a low of 76 this morning...... Dirty brown, out to the 4th bar.
Upwelling. But then, it's June and all..... 2 straight years sans the 'brown floating plant material', so I guess it ain't all bad.
Driving S. of Bob Hall is still a 9+, save for all the wood/trees/logs. Did see an occasional whiting landed, so the fish gotta eat in cold water too.

Thanks the timing is spot on. It used to coincide with our annual trip to Rob's at South Padre. The first week of June the trout bite in the surf would be off the chart then when we got there the next week the cold water would precede us by a day or two. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

We had months of this last year. Do you guys think we still going to be fighting this at the end of July. Headed south on PINS for a few days.
I remember the wind also being from S to N direction when it started. From what I can see we are still experiencing the SE to NW direction winds as of right now even.
CS have you been south of the south sticks lately. _________________ If you do not seek a solution you are in the wrong situation. |

I was to the sticks yesterday, and the whole length from Bob Hall to there looked similar. Brown, cold, and ugly. Bottomed today out ~ 77 according to the Blucher instrument on the pier. Port A even had low temps. The station at Port Isabel has some malfunction right now, as it shows a temp of 44.8 F !!!
Water Temperature 7.1 C 44.8 F 44.8 F Jun 17 12:00 CDT 01h19m ago
I also checked the Gulf-wide view of temps, and it shows a slice of cold water hugging the coast well into Mexico. I suppose all of PINS looks like it does down to the sticks...... Sorry for the rotten news, given your upcoming trip.

| The upwelling is from the north jetty south to the border. There are some places on PINS it goes a mile out. This one could last a while. Jeff Wolda |

| The water coming in from packery looked like Corpus Christi Bay after a heavy flood yesterday. I just hope that water doesn't make its way south and muddy everything up on the laguna. |

| This has happened my last 2 trips down! We still caught them pretty good last year. Maybe the same will happen this year. |

| Just got off the beach. My advice for fishing it is to stay at home! Water is warm but it is as dirty as it gets to at least the 3rd bar (much farther in some places) Jeff Wolda |

OUCH but, We did have a significant wind change today. If it will stay mostly out of the East we should start seeing positive changes. It should push the warmer water back up to the beach forcing the colder back down to Davey Jones. _________________ If you do not seek a solution you are in the wrong situation. |

The temps have rebounded, and the surf looked quite 'normal' for June!
On the top of the dunes at Access Rd. 3, I saw a bunch of green streaks in past the 4th bar, and the 'brownish' color of the surf abating!
Good news, all-in-all. [Save for the d@mn tar ball I picked up and didn't notice until i got back into my vehicle....... Grrrrrrrrrrrr] |

Thanks for the update CS and glad to see temps on the rise. Look at The Dunes condo cam for a really good shot of the surf conditions near Horace Caldwell in Port A. _________________ HooYah!
