My sister and her kids stopped by for a visit for a few days. What better way to finish their visit than a trip to the beach.
With 6 kids under the age of 7, I wasn't planning on fishing hard, but brought two surf rods and some fish bites (why are they kept locked up at the Flour Bluff HEB? Do people really steal those) The water wasn't rough, but looked like Galveston's chocolate milk water.
We caught a few smalller whiting and a few hard heads.
One whiting was cut up for bait. After soaking a few hours, and nothing, I was about to check the rod, thinking hard heads had cleaned it off. That's when something picked it up and took a burning run headed for the rigs. After around 100 yards, it turned and ran right in, back into the gut and the headed north and cut off my 60lbs top shot on the sand bar. I could feel the head shaking, but don't know what it could have been. A jack or a shark?

I re-rigged and tossed out my last whiting nugget. After about 15 minutes, the reel goes off. This fish put up a fair fight, nothing like the first one. Get it close enought to see it's a 4 - 4-1/2" BT. And about that time, he spit the hook.
I take this as the sign, time to pack up and get the kids out of the sun for the day.
