I fished Kate's hole a few weeks ago and was surprised the still see my "pet" porpoise still in there. It has been over there for over a year now by it's self.
I have nick named it Outcast for that reason. This thing follows me like a lost lab while I'm fishing in the boat and chases down every fish I release.

I wonder why it is alone? I'm sure it could swim the flat back to the ICW.

Fishing has been poor there since the gill netter working the hole and now this pet.

I don't think they're all as smart as they made them out to be on Flipper.

dude no kidding....there's been one in Deadmans for about that long too; has completely tanked the fishing in that entire area.....I'm not sure why they won't leave, but they need to get out of there....

Becky
Thanks for the correction, on my pet "dolphin".
Which Deadmans area are you seeing it at? The hole due East of Kate's or the one North of Kate's? I have heard both areas called Deadmans and Deadman.

ST,
I was referring to the guy the Gamewardens caught gill netting that hole at night around a year ago.

the hole right off the back island parking between Mollie Beattie and the billboard, behind the Island in the Son Church, is Kates Hole....Deadmans is the hole out by the Crane Islands...some people split them based on the bar, but I don't....Packery Flats hole adjacent to packery channel has been called Deadman(s) before, but we've all come up with a new name for it these days...

interesting on the gill netter; hadn't heard of that one....glad it got stopped!

Maybe the dolphins are there for the same reason you go there? Very Happy Except they get to stay there all of the time and just wait for the fish to show up? They sure can mess up the fishing sometimes. However, some have said they help them find fish, but it certainly has not ever worked that way for me. Sad

That is interesting because about a year ago my buddy told me fishing wasn't good at deadmans,(by crane island), because a dolphin had been staying there for a month. We were out and about and went over to see if it was still there. Got over there, started catching dinks and 'phhhhht', there it was right behind us. We were drifting and it was staying right behind waiting for us to throw a dink back. We moved a ways off and 'pfffft', there it was back with us. Could it be the same one? In there for a year? Or maybe it comes and goes. We only saw one.

yup, same dang dolphin! that thing has no fear, and evidently, I'm afraid, that people are feeding it (intentionally or unintentionally) so it has no reason to leave....

that dolphin has tugged on our drift sock before! little sucker....needs to move on...

is there ever going to be a number on dolphin population that allows for an open season?

serious question.... they seem to be completely unchecked, and out of control in many areas.

a little google research shows that dolphin meat is a common item in school lunches in japan..... and the oilfield is pretty slow. hmmmmmmm
