|
|
I noticed this winter that all of my GPS tracks both current and old have shifted Southeast in respect to my maps of the channels by about 40-60 ft.
Anyone else see this?
Fishing was good in the afternoons in shallow off color water. Also notice nice sheepheads staging on submerged pilings from Pita to the Boat hole. They where not interested in my plastics but a free lined live shrimp would have been the ticket for them.

GPS for recreational purposes is pretty accurate, but far from an exact science. I've noticed some of my waypoints have "moved" slightly before.
Most units are capable of 3-4 meter accuracy at best but this can worsen due to various reasons. Among other things, GPS signals can actually reflect on water under certain conditions causing inaccuracies. Do some internet recon on GPS and you'll find more info.
Next time you go out check it again, I would bet your old tracks will be back to normal _________________ "Deep inside, you know the fish isn't the only one that's hooked" |

I am using a Humminbird GPS with a Navionics chip in it.
My track use to be centered for example in the Humble crash channels when I ran them. If I follow my old tracks I am still in the center of the channel but my map image shows me out of the channel.....
Maybe there is an offset setting in the map image verses GPS position?
Dang don't make me read a manual!! |

If I was you, I would keep following the tracks. Just saying... _________________

I'm having the same issue with my Lowrance unit. I first noticed it after installing some new overlays (Navionics, I believe). So, I switched back to the factory overlays but am still having the same issue. Tracks and eyeballs show me in the channel, chart shows me out. Interested to hear if anyone has ideas on a fix. |

Shouldn't affect you in Baffin. I'm pretty sure the rocks move in there too. |
