In reality, it just wasn't the right motor for that hull. Replaced it with a 4-stroke 150 and it is now one of the most awesome boats I've owned. Incredible hole shot and miraculous fuel economy. Not all 130's may be bad but that one was. On the other hand, I know several people that were very happy with a 115 on their 20V. But give me the 4 banger any day! |
Interesting....maybe you got a lemon?
I now remember of exactly which motor and boat you speak of...think I bombed down to the meadows with rockstar bob one day a few years back, and you're right, it was "ok"....
glad you're set up now! just need time to get out and use it!

Worst:
15ft Ugly stick spinner......................That thing will break your back.
With a breakaway canon on it, it will throw a bait a mile but it will put a kink in your back. It makes a hideous shudder when you pull the trigger. Its like a bad harmonic that feeds back through the rod.
Best: CPS 2-5 11 ft conventional rod. It will flat throw 3 ounces and a double drop over 100 yards. |

WORST BY FAR; Daiwa "Minicast" spinning outfit, back in the late 70's, early 80's. First fishing trip with it, I hooked a Rainbow Trout on the Little Red River that tailwalked 3 times....... It was a hook jawed male as long as the Jon boat was wide!!! The drag on the POS was so jerky that it jerked even loose...... When the fish hit the water after that 3rd tailwalk, the last thing I saw was his tail beating away from the boat and the 6 lb test went CRACK!!!!!!
To make matters worse, that same fish swam under the boat 2 more times with my hook AND nightcrawler still hanging out of it's jaw, giving me "the middle fin", not unlike Moby Richard! This fish was a good bit longer than the Arkansas State Record at that time. I came home and threw that POS in the trash, HONESTLY!
The best is my Quantum Cabo 60 spinning reel, the finest piece of fishing gear that I've ever owned. The drag is butter smooth and surge free no matter the tension! _________________ Dave

WORST: I bought a well used 16 ft v-bottom boat with a 20 hp tiller handle Mercury outboard back in the 80s. The boat was seaworthy, but the motor failed me out in Redfish Bay the second time using it. The lower unit gave out. Turns out the dude that sold it too me knew it was bad, but told me the boat and motor was in good condition. Caveat emptor I reckon. Hard lesson learned.
BEST: Abu Garcia 5500C and 6500C reels both bought back around 1985 or so. Still fish with them and they still work beautifully. |

Yep, that's the one. My partner and I splurged on the 150 and it is amazing - we need to head south with the rockstar someday. |

Worst: 78 Proline 24 repowered with a new Evinrude 150 OceanPro. Boat liked to sling the aft around when the bow caught a wave. The OceanPro was a piece of junk. New powerhead right out of warranty. 30 hp kicker was a necessity.
Best: 2000 Proline 22 with a 2000 Yamaha 150. Purchased new. Great boat and great motor. No kicker needed. Brother and I still have this boat. |

Best: Lots of best things but I am only going to pick one. Power Pole-it's about a foot shorter then when I bought it and has a really nice tip now from being used so much. Digs right in.
Worst: Anything with the from Lowrance. _________________ Diplomacy is the art of saying "Nice doggie" until you can find a rock.
