Over the weekend while I camped at the 38.5 mm on PINS, a big fish stole my rod out'a my sand spike. (I had the reel in the low position.) I cast a weight and big hook up and down the beach and parallel trying to snag it. No luck...
The next morning I cast about again for 2-hours trying to hook up. Again, no luck.
Monday, Nick Meyers called to say Oz had found a rod and could I identify it.
YES I COULD!!!
A giant thank you to Oz for thinking, 'look what someone lost' instead of 'look what I found'.
Also, thank you, Nick for linking the lost rig to the owner!
You guys are the best! |

It's good to know that there are good honest people out there watching out for other fishermen.
But what was on the line? |

Man that's awesome, what are the odds on someone else finding it, holding it for the original owner, and you getting it back? Slim to none. To answer Anmranch.....what was on the line? What could yank a rod out the holder? Well, the same thing that stole my rod and snapped my brother-in-laws leader..........Megalodon!! _________________ Stinger-A |

The rest of the story...
No fish on the end of the line.
This was not the first rodeo for me. Three or four years ago, same story; a big fish took my rod from the sand spike. I got that one back, too! It is amazing that I got my rods back twice. In both cases, I had my reel in the low position which means a lot more leverage for the fish. I'll stop doing that.
(I did have the rods securely in the spikes, pointed backward with drag not too firm but with the reel in low position. With a full 14'-rod, a fish has a huge amount of leverage and is a very powerful force.) |

Not a problem bud. That was an extremely rare and high-dollar setup and I know if I had lost it, I'd be sweating bullets and upset as well. Just glad I was able to give it back and make your day! Just do me a favor and keep an eye on the rods from now on... LOL _________________ -Oz |

Reel in the low position;
Tournament casters lower the reel down 24" toward the butt to gain additional rod leverage. It sure helps in distance casting...
but that extra two foot of length also helps the FISH bend the rod out'a the sand spike!!! |
