Another great trip in the books. First I have to mention if anybody in this area is looking at a trailer the team at coastline really stand behind their trailers. Mine is 6 yrs old from them but I bought from the original owner. Had two lights not working and they replace both rear lights, light strip in back under motor and one side running light. Then they re-braced and bolted the trailer guides that one had come loose. No charge!!!
So having to drop it off gave me a fishing pass. We have a cabin leased on the island across from Charlies baitcamp and had a work day to repair dock/pier that is continuing to get washed out due to severe erosion from the influx of barges.
Now it was time to fish and we headed south to hit a reef that has been producing. The fish were there but have changed to the opposite side of the reef the last two weeks and the fish also shrank! After about thirty trout and only 7 keepers we left them biting in search of larger trout. Hit a shoreline nearby with a small backlake with only two undersized. Sun was going down so we headed back to camp with our other group already having their limit and our food already grilled for us.
Go up at 7:00 and waited about an hour to see if the fog would ease and with no change we slowly headed out. We hit the spot our other buddies went the evening before and with a strong outgoing tide it was a fast limit. Was interesting to have people show up and get writhin 50 yards before they realized they were not the first boat at the spot! We left to get away from the growing crowd and went to a small reef and again fish were plentiful but 95% were all 14-14.5"
Again the thumpin mullet was the lure I was throwing and let me tell you these soft plastics hold up much better than my old favorite saltwater assassins(think they have downgraded their plastic)
Last month the fish were fat and heavy and almost everything we kept was fairly thin. I am assuming due to the shrimp migrating last month they were gorged and have already lost that weight???(any feedback)
Still continues to be best fishing I have had the last ten years. Bay system in in great shape with lots of fish. _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |

Thanks for the report!
We're heading out in the morning camping on the island so will be roaming around. Got some Thumping Mullet in the bag... curious what jigheads you use on those as I'm usually using the smaller Sea Shad. Mind sharing how deep the fish were holding? I don't think we'll fish from the boat much because we mostly like to wade, but just in case. _________________ JJ |

Sorry, a little late but I was using screw lock 1/8 oz H20 brand. (Cheaper but held up fine) fish where in 3-5 ft.
Good luck _________________ Take a kid fishing, best investment for them and our future of fishing. |

Very good report. Almost felt like I was there. Wish I had been. Thanks. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |
