Drove the length of the beach from south Packery down to north sticks.

At Packery, there were folks fishing both sides of the channel, but little being caught. One man left , saying in three hours, he'd only caught 2 Spanish macs and not much going on. Saw no mullet on either side of the jetty and no working birds. Strangely, I didn't see a single turtle; usually there are lots of turtles in the water by the jetties.

Then, I started south. Water looked good, but most birds just sitting at water's edge. There was no weed washing in, and no noticeable effects of red tide.

Got to Bob Hall where I saw a number of people up on the pier. Water still looking good. Stopped to talk with some of the fishermen on the beach along the way. Most reported little action, or good catches of Whiting. Some said hardheads were being caught.

Shortly after Bob Hall, I came across a dead bull red, but that was the only dead fish I saw close to water. Even most of the long dead fish were long gone, thanks to recent high tides. I did see one dead pelican near the water's edge [a first for me]. The driving was smooth the whole way.

I did see two places with busting bait in the first gut and feeding pelicans.

About half way between Bob Hall and the sticks, I began to be aware of very faint aerosol effects of red tide. Closer to the sticks I talked with a couple of fishermen who told me they had just set up, having come from around the 15 mile marker on PINS where aerosols were so bad that their eyes were burning, so they had left and come north to get away from it.

Hope this helps for those of you trying to decide whether to try fishing the beach.

Whats weird is your report goes against tonights Sharkathon beach update. They said today there was zero sign of red tide to the 40mm. After that light signs of it.

I ran down yesterday evening for a quick fish and to check it out after work and fished down to about the 15 where i started to cough and turned back around. Lots of birds working bait and skips and spanish macks north of there however. But around the 15 I could definitely feel it in my throat. There were a ton of small dead sea stars too, I don't know if that's a sign of anything.

I was there at packery yesterday about the same time, i remember those 2 boys, one in the green shorts spear fishing. Went home and came back around 6pm. A couple reds were pulled out right before sunset. Still no bait.

Speaking of turtles (or the lack thereof) I've seen a bunch of them in the marina in Port A the last two weeks.

Some friends of mine have been chasing tarpon at the jetties around dark, with quite a consistent bite. Free-lined live mullet.
