Anyone have a good resource for new lines? West Marine is just too rich for me.

Defender Marine. I have a "wholssale" account with West, and the line prices at Defender are frequently less than my wholesale price!!!!!! _________________ Dave

Please excuse my curiosity, but what are sailing lines, and how are they used?

Sailing lines are basically ropes used on sailboats, but the same ropes are useful for lots of tasks

Depends on the application, but mostly strength to weight/size. Example; regular 1/8" Spectra line has the same breaking strength (2,000 pounds!!!) as 1/8" SS 1x19 cable, and it floats! The newer, more expensive Spectra lines are even stronger and have less creep under very high percentages of their safe working load. Pretty amazing stuff!
apsltd.com has lots of great line too, at fairly good pricing. _________________ Dave

Great attitude, and I totally agree with you!
There are lines available (have been for a few years) that are actually smaller in diameter and stronger than sold, SS rod rigging. The "spare no expense, win at all cost", big boat, sailing croud use these to replace the standing rigging that holds the mast up! Freaking HUGE loads!!!
Very darn expensive, but mighty amazing at the sametime!
