Hey guys. I am a long time lurker in the forum, thank you for all of your advice.
Provided the red tide is not on SPI next weekend, my family will be making a fishing trip to SPI. Our friend owns an RV in the area that he is letting us use.
I know there's a RV park right off the beach at Isla Blanca park, but I was wondering if there's any place that will allow up to park the RV directly on the beach while we fish during the day? We wouldn't be sleeping on the beach, just there during the day.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance! |

I have never seen one on the beach there. I think you might be in trouble with the red tide still. Right now it is raging down there. The only place you can drive on the beach is from Access rd 6 north to the South Port Mansfield Jetty. If there is no red tide present there will be lots of dead hardhead spines that might create a nightmare for you and that RV _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

I believe there is an RV parking area at beach access 4, but it is not right on the beach.
I would heed Tyler's advise about driving on the beach. _________________

| An assessment of the SPI area shows it's in full on red tide kill mode, although the numbers of hardheads there are way lower than what we saw here. Still, next weekend is pretty close and the aerosols are still bad there, and I imagine the surf may not be recovered yet. |

| Why not the State Park? There are RV pads as well as tent pads and day use sites. You get easy access to the surf around Fish Pass Jetties. I've been told that if you are staying in a state park, as long as you're within the park boundaries, you don't have to have a fishing license. Have no idea if that's true. |

Yeah, I would go to Mustang Island State Park with the red tide still in SPI...
Chance of getting flat or 2 flats from dead fish spines, would not be fun...
Or if you didn't want to pay for a site, and have a generator for power or a 12 volt setup or just be able to RV right at the beach "I think" you can park an RV at the Port A Jetties and it close to some beach area also there...Or have seen RV's parked right at the channel there before...
Not sure about Mustang island "beaches" or Port A "beaches"?
"Our friend owns an (RV in the area that he is letting us use)."
Or if you just didn't want to drive that far from SPI if RV is in that area...
I'd try to find a spot just off the beach in SPI, or leave it where it's at...lol |

Aerosols were present today. Not sure how much things are going to clear up next weekend. 1 dead Fish every 30 ft or so near Claytons.
You can only drive on the beach at access 6 going north, I am not certain if RVs are permitted or not you can also drive one day and ask the guys at the front pay station. |

You can drive north on the beach starting at access 5. I wouldn't try to get on at 6 in a RV this time of year. I'm not sure if RV's are allowed. Try this phone number they can probably answer your questions.

Thanks a lot for the help guys.
I'm going to abandon the idea of parking the RV directly on the beach and just use either KOA or Isla Blanca.
Looking at the state reports at http://tpwd.texas.gov/landwater/water/environconcerns/hab/redtide/status.phtml it seems that the red tide is better than it was 3 days ago at SPI. I'm really hoping it clears up because this weekend is my only weekend I'll be able to make it down.
Is there any telling how long red tide sticks around, or is it mostly random? |
