We got down here late last Friday. The freaking wind has been blowing from the NNE to ENE ever since Sunday morning..... Had two party boat trips canceled already (Sunday and yesterday) because of the conditions offshore! Embarassed

The only bright spot so far was that first Saturday afternoon. My bud and I caught some bait and picked up some live shrimp, then headed for the end of the west jetty. Hadn't been there 5 minutes and I hooked something really nice, had it for 6-8 seconds, then the hook pulled free. Between us we boated 7 Mangroves between 1.5 and 4 pounds, with the largest coming on a small pinfish, using 25 lb fluoro leaders and size 4, Owner SSW bait hooks.

Those big mangroves fight and taste good. I have caught some nice ones at the Isla Blanca jetties on South Padre Island on finger mullet.

Hope the winds die down and you can make your offshore trips.....

Thanks. Offshore was canceled this morning and looks like for tomorrow too. SUCKS!!! Evil or Very Mad

I've been dreaming of FINALLY pulling that keeper AJ over the rail, and I can't get out there......

The conditions here are so much milder than the Texas coast, that when it does get to 3', that's "rough"! Shocked

Been working on tracking down starting issues all morning. Bad enough on one's own boat. On a borrowed boat, on vacation......... Along with not being able to get offshore without dropping many $$$$ on a big sportfishing boat, I'm not a happy camper, but trying as best that I can to face it with as much "c'est la vie" attitude as possible. My second Sunday in Destin was the only day out of 7 possible 8 hour trips that the boat left the dock. That sucked, BIG time, but I finally broke my personal jinx on bringing a legal (30" min at fork) AJ over the rail, then ANOTHER, after many hours of jigging and at least 4 different stops.

I caught 3 undersize earlier in the trip, and caught one in May that was only 1/2" under, but both of these were 33" plus. They all fought great for the size of course, but until catching these two I had no idea that an AJ's power and stamina goes up exponentially with every inch of growth!!!!!! Shocked Shocked

Holy moly, what a fight!!!!!!!

Before anyone asks, the deckhands said that there were 20 people fishing so they could boat 20 legal AJ. After pics at the dock, they gave me my fish. After all those that have been released in the last 4 years, lady luck finally shined upon me! Wink

They went 16 and 16.75 lbs.

Congrats Dave!!! Beautiful fish.

As far as trip luck goes...my first vacation in 2 1/2 years (4 day weekend Rolling Eyes ) was greeted with the red tide.

I hold Tyler personally responsible and possibly IMS since he IS the Exalted Ruler.

Thanks man. I have been keeping up with the red tide down there, really sucks for y'all....... And I didn't even come down for a visit to bring it on! Shocked

Seems like everytime I head to CC, the water is beautiful the first day or two and then the brown tide rolls in, and everywhere else I go, I'm met with high pressure, bluebird skies and NE to east winds! The Sunday that I caught these was the only day out of the 12 we were there that DIDN'T have these winds....... Rolling Eyes

Best of luck, sure do hope the red tide disappears soon! Wink
