I’m an avid kayak fisherman and have been out four times this past week. I fished king ranch shoreline, Humble channel and spoils and into the boat hole and have even been out to shamrock cove. I haven’t run into a limit of fish or even have a limit any where. I always pick up four to five fish each time but its just hard fishing. I use lures and have even changed to live bait to trigger I better day of fishing but still no luck Has anyone have any suggestions or other places that are producing a bit more fish this time of year. None the less “any bad day of fishing is better then a good day of working.” Thanks for any comments or replys.

Fish the evening and into the night as we are approaching the full moon. I have found that if I fish the evenings approaching a full moon and the mornings after I do better. I have also found that the 2 days or so that is FULL, I either need to fish at midnight or mid afternoon.

Thanks going coastal your reply is greatly appreciated. I have never thought to try that but think I will give it a go this weekend. I went fishing last night 6/28/07 to marker 37 and did great using a fly rod. I caught three lady fish and about six trout. The trout were all under the limit but catching anything is saltwater on a fly rod is fun especially after having terrible fishing trips prior to. Have a great weekend fishing everyone.

4 or 5 keeper fish per trip is actually pretty good for the upper Laguna. There are lots of good local fishermen that frequently catch one or two keeper fish or nothing at all. Of course you never hear about those reports.

OK, riofrio, here's one for you that slipped by.....

Dad and I went fishing two days ago, and thought we were going to get on a monster trout bite because of fishing the day before (where we only caught two dinks, but saw big fish)

one of the few bites we got was this oversized red my dad picked up on a bone he-dog....I lost a couple more, and was generally dissapointed......

so there, you're right, not every fishing trip results in an awesome report.....maybe it should though....

Tyler, can you start a forum of "Non-Catching Reports".....that sure would be exciting Very Happy

It would get too big!
Let's go fishing if you get thrown under the bus!

LOL, you're right.....a Non-catching, or Only-caught-a-few report section would be much bigger than the reports section! Very Happy we might all learn what NOT to use, and where NOT to go though.....

yeah, and speaking of, we need a "got-thrown-under-the-bus" forum or thread of how you were going to go fishing with someone, and they ditched you, or bumped your spot on the boat for their momma, and went out and slayed them without you Very Happy

will definitely call you if something happens (or in this case, doesn't happen)

I fished last friday and saturday all over the place...Caught a few undersize specs back side of Mustang, some ladyfish in packery, and the state record hard head in the surf by packery...on a live finger mullet...That SOB must have been 4-5lbs...don't think I'd want the stigma of catching the state record hard head Laughing .... We generally didn't catch anything...

I'm thinking of trying over on the North side of the bay/Redfish bay this weekend...

LOL, castnblast, what's wrong with that? get your name on the record books!!

but you're right, that would be about as exciting as having your name on the books for the state record dusky damselfish (no offense Pat Lemire, if you're paying attention to this).....

the fishin is bound to pick up in the bays, but probably not for another few weeks...

meanwhile, the surf looks FABULOUS!!

Snookered, That's a good one fish trip. Really good since you got to fish with your Dad.

The full moon has me "snookered" right now. We went out this AM knowing that the bite was going to be slow in the morning. Went everywhere and caught a couple of dink trout and one keeper red after about 500 casts. The croaker soakers were moving around a lot as well...

This afternoon should be good. I'm going to hang out in the a\c for awhile and head back out around 5PM..... The jetties are starting to yield a few trout close to the rocks on live bait.
