Hey folks 1st post, however humbly give credit to the great members of this forum for the majority of our fishing success on PINS over the past few years.
The wife and I would like to try a fishing charter this year and we are looking for any recommendations you may have. We will be coming down next week and stay at Mustang ISP. We'd like to fish deep water, but having fun and catching 'big' fish is the goal.
Services like Dolphin Docks & Fisherman's Warf out of Port A certainly fit the budget as we cant afford $5-$600 for a private boat. Any thoughts or suggestions? |

It'll be difficult to find an inexpensive charter. For smaller groups you pay a higher price for the convenience of not being with a large number of other fishermen next to you. But with a smaller group charter you split the cost of fuel, bait, etc. amongst that smaller group. That being said, with fuel cost down like they are you'll find the cost of those smaller charters should be closer to affordable.
Good luck and I hope you find something to have fun with. |

Increase your budget......... [Or like wallhanger points out, find some friends to invite who can split the costs]
Tough to hear, but you won't make it too far offshore for the 'big fish' with only $500-to-$600 to spend. |

These past several years, I have done my best to apply the logic of our commander in chief. To end our energy crises, he simply suggested to make sure you maintain proper air pressure levels in your tires.
To solve your dilemma, and to save 5-600 dollars, just go to the end of the jetties and learn to cast farther.
BTW....Welcome! _________________

Or better yet, do like out illustrious City Leaders. Preach conservation, when it comes to water usage, and then when the citizens oblige, turn around and raise their rates because the lower consumption led to less tax revenue, thus needing a rate increase to make up for the shortfall.....
I swear you can't make this stuff up. |

And then when we conserve enough water we are told that we need to boil our water because not enough was running through our lines to keep it free of bacteria. |

| Has anyone tried the Skat/Warf Cat or any of the Dolphin Docks boats? Is it worth the trip or just better off saving up for a Private Charter next year? |

Forecast is looking questionable for offshore, but it's still early to say.
I'd personally save my money for a private trip next year, it's been very hit and miss offshore lately.
As a long time private boat captain/mate, I simply can't imagine being on a boat with strangers, you can't bring a cooler, and you have no control over the course of the trip.
I would recommend looking at a tuna trip during the fall/winter...it's my understanding that some of the boats limit the number of people to 20-30. I think they're usually in the $650 range for the 60 hour trip.
Darn good option to get out deeper than the day charters run, and they normally come home early because they run out of room for fish. _________________ I'd rather be fishing |
