neuter and release them BACK into the city, or catch and kill?
I'm curious what the Audubon society and texas parks and wildlife has to say about the issue? It seems to be a hot topic coming up in the city. |

It's a total joke here. Doesn't work at all. They did it in Kerrville because of all the twinky winky do gooder PETA kitty lover libbies running around here. The results have been zero. Called it the "big fix". Really stupid.
They tell you that the cats will die off without reproducing - big deal - yeah they'll die off - in about 15 or 20 years! In the meantime the problems just continues. Most homeowners want a solution to the problem NOW - not in 20 years.
People complained about the cats killing birds at their bird feeders. The "big fix certainly wasn't a solution. Neutered the cats, put them back, and the next day they were back killing the birds.
We have problems with rabies here. 17 cases in the county this year. Oh yeah, they are going to vaccinate all the cats before they release them! What happens when the vaccination wears off?? Are they going to catch all the cats again and vaccinate them as long as they are alive. Hell no they aren't!!
They best fix for the feral cat problem is the old SSS (shoot, silence, shovel)!! _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

What a load of BS!!! Watch a bunch of feral cats at your bird feeder sometime and then tell me whats killing most of the birds in the city. If people are so good at killing off all the birds and wildlife with pollution, etc.. - then why do we have so damn many feral cats running around. Doesn't seem to be hurting them at all does it.
And, if bird and wildlife are being devastated by pollution, etc... - then why in the hell would we want to put a bunch of killer feral cats back on the street so they can continue to kill birds at the feeders of people who are trying to help the birds???
Just a bunch of LIBBY FEEL GOOD NONSENSE!!
SSS is the only real solution. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

Good point.
When I lived catless the backyard was like a zoo out there. The dog would chase the squirrels and the occasional bird, but they didn't seem to mind and were always there, eating from the feeder, flying and landing in the trees, and all the things happy birds and squirrels do I guess.
Then the cat moved in and soon after that, the birds and squirrels went away. Three years later, I still have the feeder up, but rare is the bird that now uses it. In fact, I still have the same bag of bird seed from three years ago. Squirrels are a rarity as well. In Hawaii, I once saw a big rat running behind a cat and not the other way around. I don't think cat's like rats too much. From what I've found by my door over the years, I'd say they much prefer birds and lizards. |

Why is it considered ok to let cats run wild and not dogs. Although, I do not relish it, if the animal is not going to be properly cared for than it needs to be put down. _________________ "I do hunt and I do fish and I do not apologize to anyone that I hunt and fish." - Norman Schwarzkopf |

| My old neighborhood was covered in cats and my neighbors wife hated them crapping in her flowerbedS so he put out a trap. About 9 months and 300 cats later we were cat free!!! He relocated them to a nice quite wooded lot about an hour outside of town. 👍 |

| A gamo air rifle is the best solution to knock 'em down in your neighborhood if that's what you want to do. In my case I adopted one on purpose to keep the squirrels and birds out of my peach trees along with my tomatos. He's now full grown & is an accomplished little hunter. I've seen him leap 3-4' up in the air to snag a bird. This year I actually was able to make a few peach pies from my trees. Still plenty of birds around too, I see them feeding on the wild persimmons right now as I look out the window. Smart ones survive, dumb ones fall prey. |

| The real problem is people who don't take responsibility for their pets, getting them spayed/neutered. This is also true for dogs. I can't believe the number of dogs I have seen running in packs in neighborhoods....none of them with collars. People also seem to just dump/ abandon their pets. This same lack of responsibility is seen in the trash dumping and littering, and the blatant disregard for No Trespassing signs. Unless the city does a much better job of enforcement of current laws, I fear that there is little hope for change. |

I have family that lives in Bandera, they did the same thing a few years ago. The people for the program even started to go door to door asking for donations to care for the animals. After a couple times of turning them away, they came around and interrupted my uncle mid-afternoon nap or dinner or something. When they asked for a donation my uncle tried to give them a box of .22 shells. Needless to say, they never bothered him again! _________________ "Deep inside, you know the fish isn't the only one that's hooked" |
