Hi everyone,

Just moved to Corpus and excited to get on board! I got out wade fishing a week or so ago on the backside of Mustang Island and caught a few trout and small reds. One question...I happened to come across what I think were redfish tailing and noticed a lot of dimples in the mud. Do the redfish make those and if so what are they searching for? Also, I threw 4-5 different soft plastics (bass assassin paddle tails, DOA shrimp, Airheads, flukes) at them without any luck. Any suggestions for what I should try?

Thanks

Welcome. You probably found a school of black drum. When they are up shallow like that with their backs/tails showing they are most likely feeding on crabs and are not interested in much else. Cool pic

They blow out the sand to get to small clams that they can smell buried in the sand. It leaves all those little craters.

Try throwing a Gulp crab (the small variety) on a bare hook with no weight. They are very spooky.

As stated above, gulp crab and I have even tore a gulp shrimp in half and they will pick that up more than a whole gulp shrimp.

Fast out of the box! Great first report, and with pics, you're going to fit well with this group. Keep them coming. BTW, nice catch.

if it were me fishing over there... I'd be getting out early. like still dark early, walking around slowing looking for tails and wakes. try some white gulps... mantis shrimp are my favorite. or a spoon rigged with a sliver of gulp as a trailer.
