I came into several hundred feet of 3/16" stainless steel cable for free. I know its probably overkill but does anyone see a problem using this for the long part of the leader ,then stepping down to 3/32" with the hook via a barrel swivel between the 2 cables? THis would for kayaking baits out. I am think 15' or so of 3/16" then step down to 3/32"

I say if you got it use it. It's kind of a thick material but if it's free it's free. What can it hurt to try? A lot of people coat metal parts so that sharks can't sense the electrical fields or some crap. In my opinion doesn't make too much of a difference. I've tried coated and uncoated. Caught on both. It's up to you what to do with it.

The problem with cable on your upper leaders is that it will bury in the sand, stick with heavy mono and a float and your world will turn! Wink

I agree.... but it's free.... lol a good sized float would hold up that leader.

Playing the devil's advocate here: If someone gave you a "free" hand grenade when all you needed was a firecracker, would you use it? Cool

Seriously, a free hand grenade?! Hell yes I'd use it. Hard to come by those.
