My buddies and I have implemented BEER FISH into our fishing trips. It tends to add a little something to the day. It doesn't HAVE TO BE BEER, you can make it anything you want. You just can't have it until you catch a fish, ANY fish, does snot matter what kind.
This makes that first fish of the day VERY important. You'll never find someone so excited to catch a hard head, skip jack, or piggy perch. That first fish is a PRIZE.
A few simple rules:
1. Must be caught on rod and reel.
2. A fish is considered caught when;
a) it is firmly in hand
b) fish is in the net
c) it is on the deck of the boat, or on the sand at the beach.
Had many a day that we had long discussions about the BEER FISH; what it was, how hard you worked to make it a catch, or how long it took someone to catch it. At times can work wonders on your sobriety. The first person to catch one has a strong tendentcy to let all the others know just how good it is.
Just nothing like a BEER FISH! |

Had this tradition growing us, except it had to be a keeper fish worth eating. Also the you gest person was the beer bitch... Or whoever hasn't caught a fish yet. Good memories. Beer bitch had to sit on the cooler too and hand everybody else beer. _________________ Flounder Slayer

Well it usually ends up with my dad messing with the trolling motor or untangling lines and not catching any fish. So, as being captain, he would invoke the 1030 rule, which means the captain could drink after 1030... There are always loop holes in a dictatorship! _________________ Flounder Slayer

That makes you a kinder, more benevolent dictator. |

Mutiny, as IMS states, could be a waiting, a skunk is now a major hurt.
But it's a blast watching yourself or a buddy chase down a skipjack with a net, or seeing the smile on a guy's face after catching a hard head. Only happens when that fish is the BEER FISH.
Traditions! Just another thing to add to the trip. We have fun with it and It's All About the Fun. |
