|
|
I recently purchased a Fly rod combo which was a Beulah Blue water 7/8 weight rod, and a Fin Nor #3 fly reel.
You think I should fish that reel, or keep it as a display piece and buy a working reel? From what I read, the Fin nor's are no longer producing these...and they may have some collectible value to fly fisherman in the future. Is this true? Anybody have experience with them?
Should I fish it? |

I'd fish that rod for sure but I would hang up that reel... I don't know too much about them but based on the little research I've done it does look like they are worth some money! _________________ "I never had an Easter, but I've always had a bunch of speakers" - Beardo |

Sounds like a very heavy reel. How does it balance the rod? _________________ kick your shoes off and cast a line |

Ill have to check that actually. I didn't think it would be too big, but its entirely possible. It came as a set. Both the rod and reel appear to be brand new. |

sounds like your reel is bigger than necessary...
if it is the "wedding cake' reel there's a collectors market... later models, not so much...
but a Fin-Nor collector may offer you enuff to offset the bucks...
the rod lists for 385 on their website, so figger maybe $200 for it...
sounds like a modern rod.. never heard of them...
if you can sell the reel and replace for a correct 8wt nice reel and stay ahead of the dogs...I'd sell the Fin-Nor.
maybe even come out ahead...
should be a nice redfish bay rod.
that said... my fly gear is junk compared to this stuff.

Here is a thread on Nor Fin from THT, The Hull Truth:http://www.thehulltruth.com/sportfishing-charters-forum/36606-fin-nor-2-a.html#b
There is much more on Google, so you might look there. It seems the #3 is a 10 weight reel. |
