Last week, I saw many people picking up baby turtles, to " warm them up so they don't die ".

Not sure I really get this one. Don't get me wrong, turtle conservation has worked wonders with the Ripley's making a comeback.

Hasn't the cold weather been happening forever, what happened hundreds of years ago before we came to this part of Texas. Did Indians warm up turtles.

I get it, they could us all the help they can get... But what about feeding the herons, as per taking their lunch away from them ?

Mom told me to not pick up songbirds. Star Trek. Gave us the prime directive, not to interfere with Mother Nature.

I'm probably gonna get a ton of hateful responses, let me have it, cause warming up baby turtles, I don't understand.

Two sides to that coin, allowing those that can't adapt/overcome adversity to die will help the species but will you take that same approach next time you need some antibiotics?

I see marketing potential here. How about tiny turtle sweaters or wetsuits? Make 'em in desert camo for protection from predators.

I see your point but back in the old days turtles didn't have to contend with shrimp trawls, eating plastic, etc.

I think it's just people trying to do something good for an animal in distress. In some cases the animal may be endangered and in other cases there may be plenty. If I was cold and stuck on an island, I sure hope someone wouldn't say--let him freeze we've got billion of humans anyway...

Thought I read in the past these turkels were not native to PINS anyway. If so, why are we screwing around with them on PINS anyway?? Seems to me we need to stop all this turkel crap and let nature deal with it as God intended.

I'll bet a million of rodandrolls money that this guy was very happy that I picked him up. I know he was glad to meet Tony. I think that's his name the guy from Port A. It makes you feel really good and it really doesn't mess up the boat.

If I see any this weekend I will give them a ride. So what if we help out a few animals along the way in our short lifetime.

Stan, that's my point...were not helping anything, mankind is just screwing up the natural balance of things! The beach is a tough environment , food for other species is hard to come by, does the coon, or coyote, or badger, or predatory bird species deserve to suffer so humans can feel good about theme selves ? Those little green turtles would make a fine meal for all those species that have to survive in hard conditions! Bottom line...people think with their hearts, not there heads!....and for God sakes man, if your on the island and freezing....walk the hell off!

....and Stan, your not fooling me! I know you like them "fried" Wink

I help all those animals just by feeding the rabbits and the birds behind my house. Food chain.....
