Tried to hit South Pac Sunday morning but too many people made me change my game plan to SBH. First stop showed nothing but small whiting on the pomp rods so I moved a bit south of the bowl. Again, nothing but whiting on the pomp rods. I casted up some mullet and tried cut bait in the second gut. After a couple of minutes my line looked like the weight had pulled and was drifting south with the current. As I tighten up the line I felt a bit of weight but just assumed it was dead seaweed as it was rolling in pretty good by this point. Showing virtually no fight until the wade gut, I brought in the 28" beauty.
I wasn't planning on keeping her but she swallowed the hook pretty good, so into the cooler she went. Stayed there for another 30 minutes or so but the seaweed made it too difficult to keep lines out. After cleaning her, I noticed something was sticking out of her stomach. I had an idea what it was but not 100% sure.
A Pepper Chartreuse 5" Gulp Jerk Shad! Now, this is my first time to see this in a fish, granted I've lost quite a few to them in the past. Funny thing was, there wasn't a jighead with it. Now, can't wait to get home and fire up the grill! _________________ -Pat |

Believe it or not, I have seen quite a few surf caught reds with a bunch of soft plastics in them. The last time was after one of the Hurricanes. Ike or Rita. I think a lot of that stuff gets blown out into the gulf and they pick up the scent and eat them. Or it could be this one just pulled the lure off some unlucky angler's jig head. _________________ Like Corpusfishing.com on Facebook! |

Water temp was a bit chilly but not too bad. Tons of bait, saw some birds working out past the third bar but they were heading north. Should've gotten the kayak down but I was feeling a bit lazy. _________________ -Pat |

I think that happens because slob fisherman throw their old plastics over the side instead of in the trash.
I filleted a good-sized striper out of Lake Travis that had 5 different plastics in it's gut. None had a jighead attached. Bass fishermen find them in largemouth all the time too. |

I was just north of the bowl, nothing but whiting as well.
Did you see the ospsrey out there fishing. I was able to watch him hit the water several times. |

AnmRanch - yes, I saw the Osprey. Unfortunately I didn't see her have much luck either lol.
Cabrego - the "Bowl" is the big party area behind the dunes a couple miles south of bob hall pier. Nothing but good high school memories back there for me. _________________ -Pat |
