Hey there!

This report is a bit late but its been a busy week. Weather reports had one last good low wind day before they picked up with these fronts. I hit the water with Oscar and Michael.

The initial bite was a bit slow. There were blackdrum schooled up big time but the bite was a bit fickle. I didnt really try for them and focused my efforts on trout.

I had a few slaps on my full size spook but no hookups. I switched to a swimbait in glow and did some work on the trout. The bite didnt last very long though in 4' over grass. Around 9:30 I pulled anchor and started poling around looking for reds on the shorelines.

Lots of drum crusing around but no takers on artificials or shrimp presented to them. Once they see you its over.

Eventually I come across a nice little red crusing in a foot of water.
Took 2 casts but they can never resist the swimbait!

I kept on my paddle trying to decide where I should try for the flounder. I eventually found a big pod of mullet sitting high in the water column with their fins up. They werent moving much which was a little weird to me. A couple casts and I came out with a handful of trout 16"-18".

I left the trout bite to try and find some flounder. The bite wasnt there though. I found a big sheepshead sitting over inches of grass. Usually they haul it when I get close but this one stayed around long enough for me to present a shrimp to it. It got slammed on landing but pulled the hook. A extra light rod isnt the best for a hookset with those sheepies.

Eventually oscar finds a fish sitting shallow so he tossed a buggs with a extra long puprle tail. Couple of second later the purple buggs disappears and he was fighting a nice little drum.

We drifted with live shrimp out and various lures but came up with nothing but dink trout and pesky pinfish.

We hit another shoreline and found it stacked with blackdrum. I pulled up shallow and spooked a big red. They dont like getting hit with popping corks apparently. I changed out to my go to and found another red crawling with its back out.

We saw a couple more but they kept short striking oscars lures. This has been a issue I've noticed as the morning goes on. They really like to short strike the lures.

It was a awesome trip to close out what might be the last day of warm weather fall fishing. This last front knocked everything deeper. Hopefully the next front wont be as cold and will let the fish stay shallow and let the tides even out.

Till Next time
Life is good!

Looks like it was a great day on the water. Sounds like you were more successful than many of the rest of us who end up only with dinks, hardheads and skipjacks to show for a day of fishing. Congratulations on your catch and thanks for the great pictures.
