If you want some of the best seafood soup around Stan try Casa de Mariscos in Weslaco. I try to get there everytime I head to Glick Twins in Pharr. _________________ "Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught." |

Well..... Something that I DON'T have to travel far to do...... There's a Bass Pro not 5 miles from my house up here in Little Rock! Opened last year just before Christmas.
Still, the closet saltwater to me is 8 hours to the Louisiana coast! _________________ Dave

Went to the Bass Pro in Harlingen a couple of weeks ago and drooled over some of the boats....
I live in Arlington, but work in Southlake. I am 15 minutes from Cabelas (170 and I35) or 15 minutes from Bass Pro on 121 north of 114 in Grapevine.
Sometimes the choice is almost too difficult.... _________________

I agree, I think Corpus could support a Bass Pro. There are a lot of fisherman between Rockport and Baffin. The selection is so much better than Academy on everything and the employees actually know how to put line on your reels. Every Academy I have ever been to whether in Austin, San Anto, or Corpus always struggles with this. _________________ But you ain't got no legs Lt. Dan, I know that |

I grew up in Harlingen...why do I remember the name Glick Twins ? We like to go to Costco in Pharr. Isn't Glick Twins a hardware or a sporting Goods place? It was on old 83 near Sugarland rd or something like that? _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

Yeah it's a hardware store on business 83 in Pharr. It's a really good gun shop too. I grew up in Raymondville which means you and I used to fish the same areas back in the day. _________________ "Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught." |

| I live about 10 min from Glick Twins, it's a Mom and Pop outdoors/gun store. Do they sell fishing stuff there? Every time I've gone in the past it was for hunting stuff. |

They don't have a huge selection of fishing stuff but they have plenty other interesting things to keep you busy. I used to buy all my surf weights there until they stopped carrying them a few months ago. _________________ "Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught." |

On Bass Pro and prices, you gotta be careful and really shop. No matter the spin about "great prices", all of the big name outfitter/outdoor stores are straight retail. Cripes..... They HAVE to be to pay for all the asinine wasted money sending out scads of catalogs to every customer each year, and to pay for the huge a$$ stores and all the inventory!
I have no problem with capitalism at all, but I ain't rich either. On certain items you can save a lot of money either shopping online or just going to the local tackle shops. Perfect example; lead weights. They are pricey as hell at BPS. When I'm down in Destin I go to Half Hitch Tackle for my lead. A MUCH better deal! don't know about CC, but the same may be true down there. _________________ Dave
