Hey guys, do any of your fish the canals on the island? I was thinking of doing some night fishing over the lights in the canals with shrimp and a popping cork or a top water bait.
sound reasonable? |

three bits of advice
1 - skip the shrimp/cork and go with a 3" storm shad or a similar knock-off (get a light color like chartreuse and a dark like purple, switch back and forth). let it sink, slow steady retrieve.
2. be mindful of people's docks. Obviously the water is public but a little courtesy goes a long way back in the canals.
3. don't spend too much time on one light or one canal.
Good luck. _________________ ...if my boss ever finds this forum I'll be unemployed... |

I tend to fish the canal lights at least once a month. like said before, a little courtesy goes a long way. I avoid a canal if there is already somebody fishing it. I also avoid any light where people are outside. try your hardest not to bump into any dock ( I had run-ins with very unhappy homeowners.) 3-4 cast max per light, then move on. if you anything, move on and come back to it later on. good luck, post a report, fish or no fish, a report is always nice. _________________ Chris |

| While you may see many fish around a light, they are usually only good for a few casts. Once you get one or two bites they get skittish. You will also find allot of smaller fish being more aggressive than the bigger fish. Once they are spooked, move on, but you can always return 15 minutes later or so and try again. |

If my place is there on the canal is there any sort of bait fishing you can do from the pier that is going to have the potential for anything other than the perch? |

| Free lined live shrimp with a #8 treble will work great. Popping corks will scare the fish unless you cast way beyond the light..... |
