| I've seen numerous times on other boats when someone hooks a big red, fights it for a while and hands off to someone else. My buddy and I give each other a hard time after a long fight and ask, you want me to spell you off and chuckle (almost every time). Just got back from San Pedro Belize. My wife and I went fishing with another couple. The other lady hooked a small tuna and a large shark came and ate it (so said the capt.) She fought it for a little bit and handed off to her husband (who was seasick) He fought it for a little bit and handed off to me. I was determined I was getting it in and leaned on him hard, he almost spooled us several times. My left arm was screaming, I finally had to hand off to my wife, then from her to deckhand, then capt., back to deckhand, I put the belt back on ready to go again and it got into the reef and snapped the line. 2 hr. total fight, 6 people and never even saw him. Oh well, we did get to eat our tuna at the capt's dockside grill that night and got to snorkel with manatees the next day, good times. Bad thing was that the frigatebirds and gulls were working like crazy about 300 yds. in front of us while we were fighting the shark, we also had 2 hooks straightened on squid lure rigs (pretty heavy hooks). Still better than working. |

| Yeah, Tyler, me too. It was real rough and we were in a 25' boat and the Mrs. didn't even get the camera out of the dry bag. When I handed off to her I was more worried about her staying in the chair and keeping the rod in the belt, since I'd felt how strong the fish was. It was so strong, in fact, that in hindsight, I think it might have been foul-hooked. |
