No bashing needed here but on a scale of 1-10 how would you rate this place. I have never been there yet. It's for future reference. Be truthful. IMS....

trying to be nice here, but I'll give you a quick low-down on my last visit (last summer)...

specials were grilled mahi (which my buddy Mickey got) and blackened grouper (which I got)....

both plates came out looking amazingly like a whole tilapia fillet (complete with bones in the right places)....we immediately knew it was wrong, and asked the waitress if she had grabbed the wrong plates from the kitchen.....waitress promised it was mahi and grouper, which we know better (doesn't take a marine biologist to tell it's tilapia for goodness sakes, but there were two of us in our party of three)....

we told her to go ask the cook....she came back blushing, and said the cook was upset, and that he maintained it was grouper and mahi.....

we ate the tilapia anyway, it wasn't terrible, but truth in advertising was not followed...they gave us a couple of free beers without explaining why they did....

their coconut fried shrimp with mango dipping sauce is pretty good, although a little heavy on the breading....

nice venue....

I have only been there once which was about a year ago. I had the fish tacos in which they were also tilapia, the tacos were not bad but to me it is definitely a "tourist trap" with the prices. I think Laguna Reef is where you will get the best bang for your buck.

IMO no resturant should have talipa on thier menu ..there's a reason they taste "earthy" Shocked ...have to agree with parrot the reef is your best bet and they have awesome hush puppy's. Very Happy

I've had a few experiences similar to Becky's. Needless to say I don't go there anymore.

My personal opinion.... Service is decent. But good service doesn't make up for bad food at high prices. I choose Laguna Reef and of course Snoopys over Docs any day of the week

You go to Doc's for the sunsets, which are hard to beat. IMO there food quality is not as good as even Snoopy's but they have a bigger selection. There are a few good menu options but mostly mediocre food. The seared tuna isn't bad (hard to mess that up) and the sauce with it is pretty tasty for instance.

"but they have a bigger selection"

Sounds like you can get Chinese radioactive farm raised Tilapia prepared anyway you want it. I'd pass on that.

Just asking because I kinda knew what the response would be. It's not the kind of place that you would take a high ranking Army General. I will admit that the view is awesome as is the Laguna Reef to which I will a high 5 and on occasion a 7. Now as for myself and I'm not bragging I would give myself a 10 or above when it comes to deep fried or pan fried. As for grilling I do a great job but I have never grilled for a crowd of 50 only family. However the end result should always be the same, fresh, great tasting and not over cooked except for those who ask for it that way which are far and few inbetween. I would imagine that Doc's is the place because they can seat alot of folks that don't know the difference in Tilapia Grouper, or Tilapia Mahi Mahi and for those that do know the difference they get free beer. Very Happy Very Happy

I'll give it a 6-7 overall. Great evening view, always nice to be on the water enjoying a good beverage. I usually get the chicken covered with crawfish and I like it. I eat at Laguna Reef as well and it is probably my preference but service locally in general is hit or miss. If you are REALLY particular about your seafood then very few places will please you locally.

Saltwater Grill is good though.

I have been a few times and honestly for me it is hit or miss. The service and the view are fairly decent. The food is mediocre at best. Basically the same experiences as everyone else minus the free beer...... Confused

Talapia is new age SPAM. If you knew how it was raised in many 3rd world countries, you would not even feed to your most hated cat.
