BoatUS as well. I have had them ever since shearing a lower unit on a mystery submerged object.

I've always had insurance on any boat, even the cheap one I'm running now. Charter Lakes seems to have the best coverage, but Progressive is way more convenient for getting the ball rolling and being done with it and I would presume claims as well. Progressive coverage is "pretty good" statistically and about the same price as the Charter Lakes quotes I've gotten. YMMV

edit: Yes Progressive is run by liberals, but so is half the other companies out there people deal with on a regular basis and don't know, for me it's about the product they provide to me.

That's one way of looking at it I guess, but you forget that every penny of profit you give them is being used to SCREW YOU if you are not a liberal. I am dayum sure not going to give those liberals any of my pennies. There are always conservative run companies available, you just have to take a few more minutes and do some investigation.

I dumped pro-gressive for the same reasons, I can't in good conscience give money to a corporation that is so misaligned with my personal beliefs.

I've heard good things about Charters, but currently have Texas Farm Bureau because it's also tied to my home owner policy and actually cheaper than pro-gressive was anyway.

Tyler,
I'm currently not running insurance on either boat. Taking a chance I know, but by the time I pay insurance on the house, the three kids, my wife, me, and two vehicles, there's not a whole lot left for boats. I realize stuff happens, but I also try to exercise a lot of caution by staying alert, away from other boaters, and minimizing risk as much as possible by running slow, especially in hazardous and/or unknown waters. I hate having to pay insurance regardless of the company's political leanings. But pay it I do. Just not on the boats.

AMEN TO THAT!!!

As for not having any insurance; yes, it's a personal choice. Just remember that insurance ain't just about helping out with repair or replacement costs. Liability is involved. No matter how careful one is and even if an accident with another party looks to be "cut and dried" as far as said policy owner not being liable, anything can happen in today's ULTRA litigious society, and ambulance chasers like former VP candidate and proven liar and adulterer John Edwards, abound!!! Shocked

Tyler, a lot of us are switching from Progressive to Charter Lakes. They were about half the cost and cover commercial as well as recreational. Call Rebecca

I just want to thank djohn71 for recommending Charter Lakes, my wife talked to Rebecca and we did switch to Charter Lakes and we are now saving about $1100 per year. We did tell Rebecca that you sent us. Thanks again Very Happy Very Happy

I had Progressive once. Had a claim for equipment taken from my boat. The claims guy came looked at the boat and took pictures and police case number. A couple of weeks later I got a letter telling me that my claim was not covered. Reason: "If it will fall out of the boat when it is upside down it is not covered." WHAT?????????? Needless to say I got rid of them.

Another Charter Lakes fan here. Every friend that I have referred them to has switched after getting a quote. Boats are their specialty so they seem to have it down. When I got my policy, I dealt with Brice Fuselier 281-452-7800, they also cover ungrounding/breakdowns and I believe they will pay the extra that sea tow may charge for hard ungroundings.
