when the county started charging a dump fee at the refuse/dump/garbage pick-up spot, I knew the county roads would quickly become dumping grounds. it didn't take long. |
Sounds like a bunch of "Arkies" have moved down there! Here in Little Rock, every pullover or backstreet has beds, furniture, full trash bags, you name it! _________________ Dave

real cedar choppers were hard-working folks who didn't have enough land to run sheep and goats.
they made a living cutting posts on other peoples property and splitting the proceeds.
not sure why it has become a derogatory term. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

Exactly! I lived in blanco county for 16 yrs before moving to the bluff, reason being....it wasn't the " hill country " any longer. Yuppyville now! |
I knew it wasn't just the smoke when your eyes got kinda wet when we built that cedar fire at Sharkathon. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

Well said kweber, that's kinda what I was thinking. Anyone who's cleared cedar knows that is some dam hard and dangerous work (chainsaws, snakes, heat, etc.) |

I've been here since 79 and it could be cause a lot of them would (and will) steal almost anything that isn't nailed or bolted down. Take a look at the weekly police and monthly county court report for this area and you will get my drift as to the type and location of most of our "wanna-be" criminal types. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

| Back to the original post, my ancestors settled this area in the 1870's (South Llano area, adjacent to Walter Buck's ranch) My grandpa was born in Junction in 09 (one of triplets), my grandmother graduated from Tivy High in '32, my father was born two blocks behind Hunt Store, my mother was born at Sid Peterson, I've lived here my entire life (with the exception of college). I love it here, it's all I know. Having said all that, I am envious of anyone who can walk out their back door down to the canal and get in their boat and start fishing for trout or reds. I can back up to my boat and be in the river in 10 minutes, but it just ain't the same. |

| Your right it aint the same living on the coast vrs living in the Hill Country. It is strange every night and seeing the big dipper in the north sky with a shooting star blowing past it or waking up in the morning hearing nothing but animals finishing up there feeding before sunrise and as light starts to light up the oaks and cedars you hear a mockingbird and cardnals greeting the new day. The guadalupe is 15 minutes from the ranch and lord did we have a good 4 1/2 inches of rain a couple of weeks ago that has the ol country looking green and will be probably be a great fall color show when the trees start to turn crimson red and yellow. Folks around here near Bergheim or respectable and mind there own business and take alot of pride in there property and wildlife. Everone i pass while driving out of here to hwy 46 still give the little wave, not the finger like on s.p.i.d. |

| Guys, I agree things have changed. i went to the Frio with the wife and kids and the people were everywhere. I will say this for the record. It could be a hell of a lot worse. We could live in New York, Philly, DC or anywhere else in this country and not be able to experience all of the beauty and diversity the great state of Texas has to offer. Yeah we have to share it more than ever but by God it is still here to enjoy. There is a reason for that saying " i was not born a Texan but I got here as fast as I could" |

I think I will head on down to my local Redbox and rent "Grumpy Old Men" and a Tommy Lee Jones movie with a title something like "No Country for Old Men"! _________________ Mike |

RODANDROLL - I am sure glad that so few of the people have discovered our little old valley called Pecan Valley. One of the nicest, quietest and used to be, darkest spots I've lived in. We used to be darker but the lights from the car lots in Boerne light up the whole southeastern sky at night. Kerrville isn't helping the Northern sky either. _________________ Gary J

| After further review, I'm glad I don't have to pay for flood insurance or wind insurance, so I guess it's all a matter of being happy with where you are. I'm just jealous of anyone that can be fishing in salty water in a matter of minutes, whereas it takes me a whole year of planning. I'm guessing there are people that feel the same way in reverse. |
