|
|
This last weekend was a little expensive for me to visit the coast everytime I need to fish, which is often. I am thinking about trying for some fresh water reds at Calaveras Lake. I've read that tilapia and crawfish are good baits, any tips or tactics to help me out, I am no good at fresh water fishing. _________________ Flounder Slayer

If ur fishn without a boat and ur limited to bank fishin, fish on dark nights never on a full moon. Use Carolina rig baited with crawdad hooked on the tail. Me caught more reds with crawdad than tilap during summer...most of my hookups between 10:00pm - 5:00am...Remember never on a full moon if ur fishing at nite. Good luck! |

Go to the dam area. Use live tilapia or perch for bait. Carolina rig is ok. O
n the east side of the dam count 3 light poles from the edge and you will be fishing a flat leading to a drop off. _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

Better NOT to eat them. Braunig and Calaveras was filled from the San Antonio River below the Dos Rios sewer treatment release plant _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

When a school of reds go into a feeding frenzy along the dam area, you can see the bait boiling and jumping out of the water. It is noisy. Scared me the first time I saw it after sundown one evening. _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

When that happens they will hit anything you throw at them. Green cocahoes on a lead head jig work great. _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

Trolling a Tony Acetta #13 spoon is easiest way to find them. Use a topo map _________________ WELCOME TO FLOUR BLUFF...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? |

| I've had them before, not that bad. There is a difference from saltwater reds to freshwater reds. I have friends you like them. As long as I have fish in freezer from the coast, when I go to Calaveras it's cpr. Headed there Saturday, if you see a 24' sea ray with twin 150 merc's that's me. |

The big ones are terrible the smaller ones are edible if you are starving. But I don't fish for food. I fish for fishing. |

| Filled by the san antonio river??? you sir need to relocate your texas creeks and rivers maps!!! The San antonio river is no wheres close to calaveras lake!!! i always have luck on free lined perch. in the mornings i head straight across the lake from the kayak launch and fish the mouth of 181 cove. last month in the mornings it was crazy over there with all the reds hitting bait. |
