Just got word that the same exact fight just happened to another kayaker and has video...If this looks like the same fish....I'm headed for redemption that's for sure.

The tail just looks too forked to be a tarpon. Some tarpon don't jump... but in 7' of water they are more apt to vs offshore. If I had to guess I'd say large jack due to the fight and tail.

Either way, we can all agree it was a nice fish!

That was a blood pumper. Yeah like said earlier you should have pulled anchor. I couldn't tell anything in the video. So what was the shape of the tail? that will tell you for sure if it was or a gar.

Hmmm, it was about this color...very similar back tail and I just realized on the slow down it looked like a back end top fin was starting to come up more toward the back.

If it is, what would a cobia be doing in these waters and relaxing in 2 ft of water??

That was me with the ling off the beach, caught on a sting ray. You know there has been some really weird things caught in our beloved laguna. I have seen with my own eyes a pomp, gag grouper, snook, 4ft hammer, black tip, and a Spanish caught off of cos-way. No lie

I was looking at your video in slow motion.
It was interesting how dark it was and how it seemed to have multiple 'tails'...

Could it have been a big Sawfish?

Then it must be a gar in disguise.... As already stated, gar don't have a forked tail or any pointed, angular fins. Cool
