Hurts to watch that line break. There use to be a school of 4 foot tarpon out there a year or two back. Usually dont get caught since its not like people take tackle to handle them out there. Pull anchor next time man, save yourself the heartbreak. _________________

Tell me about it AT, last thing I expected was to catch something like that.....if it was a tarpon how long do they stay out there for? _________________ http://www.youtube.com/NextLevelFishingTV

I'm really not too sure. I'm a little hesitant to say it was a tarpon. I know they have been in that area but I think a 5+ footer would have smoked your reel. Although I saw about 5 or 6 4 footers come out of the bay last year. I think you would have known if it was a shark. Jack is another possibility but that would have made a much faster run. Going to have to put another knotch to the one that got away. Still a awesome fight. Hit me up if ya feel like chasing a few in the yak. _________________

Cool Video Chris thanks for sharing. I had the same thing happen to me, I was wade fishing when I set the hook that fish took off like a jet I couldn't stop it I got spooled out fast my line busted and re-spooled the reel again. You just gotta love it. _________________ Hook'em and givem Dragggg !!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Not a tarpon we all know what acrobats they are, rarely do they stay below the surface when hooked. Big and slow running even could have been a large ray . |

| Made my last guess before watching the video. It definitely looks like an alligator gar after watching it. |

Can't be a tarpon! Too slow and deliberate! Kinda saw a dorsal in the 1st up close pic but didn't really see it in the last! So I don't believe it was a shark! Not a big jack bc it was not really smoking that reel at first! It could have been anything but I would have to agree with the gar theory bc of the way it rolled on top a few times! _________________

The only thing that confuses me about the gar theory is that tail at the end....I did make visual eye contact with it but I honestly didn't know what I was looking at...I've caught gar with steel leaders, sharks, dolphins by accident, Jacks, Cobia, etc...
What I remember from the first sight right before the line busted was it's dark color, hook in corner of the mouth and about a foot wide...There was only one visual top fin directly in the middle of the fish and not toward the back end like a gar...I gotta get back out there, this fish played me like a fiddle...lol
Oh and one thing is for sure....Next time I go to Yarborough pass..I'll be packing like I'm going off shore..Kills me that she got away...But I guess that's why we all fish. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/NextLevelFishingTV
