So I have never hunted down that way before, sure would be nice one of these days to go give it a whirl. But I figure I'd share a couple pictures of recent hunts up here in Kansas enjoy

| Thanks, that was a good hunt that day, a lot of lessers and just a few greaters but still fun to shoot! |

| Two dozen Canada geese, who gleaned them? My grandmother made us pluck them. That is probably why I won't shoot a goose of any type to this day if there is even a remote chance I will have to clean and eat it. |

About 6 of us, but most of the time we just breast them out just like ducks. That being said we did just buy a plucker because I prefer to cook most of my birds with skin on. But most of our birds we grind down and then take them to our deer processor and he turns them into smoked stick (like slim jims) for us for about $2.50 a pound. Well worth the price to not mess with trying to make and smoke 50-100 pounds of sticks a year.

We shoot a lot of them when we hunt Cheyenne Bottoms and around Quivira out in the central part of the state. We dont see very many around Wichita.
So far as of yesterday as a group (8 guys) our bird count is at 823 waterfoul killed this year. Mind you we dont all hunt all the time but their is always some sort of combination of 2 to 6 of us hunting together. |

those canadas aint sky carp!
I've only shot 1-2 lesser while hunting the rice country SW of Houston...
the goose hunters over there would be doing end-zone dances w/a load of those.
specklebellies are as good eating, tho.

We shoot a fair number of specs and snows as well around here, but by far we shoot can's the most. I'd say by the end of the year we usually end up at about 50% greaters 30% lessers and 20% would be made up of specs, then snows, then crains.
Maybe next year I can find someone down there that wants to "guide" us down there and in return we can take them up here.... |

Sir, respectfully to each his own. I spent over 8 hours on almost every Saturday and a Sunday, in the 70's hand picking them, specs and blues. They are smart and difficult to fool but I can't stand the way smell or taste. If you want to rack up some serious geese let's go for the spring light goose season in Arkansas. I am not kidding you, millions upon millions of them and there is no limit. Most of the farmers open up their fields as a few 100 geese can ruin. 40 rice or wheat field in a few hours. |

I've always heard Snows referred to as Sky Carp but none of the others. Heck I'll take them, the Specks and Cans I've eaten were great IMO.
That tailgate pick made me _________________ JJ |

| Nice haul! I'm not too big on our local saltwater ducks, which for me are predominantly redheads, but I could darn sure go for a batch of goose pozole. Never understood why some people speak so negatively of eating geese. To each his own I guess! |

Great pictures!!! I would love to shoot one of those greater Canadas!
I don't really bird hunt anymore but used to love it. I never could figure out a way to eat those ducks. I always would boil the geese and use them in gumbo or just in a gravy over rice. I actually enjoyed them! |

I really put a lot of work into getting them cooked right this year. Instead of listening to hunters for cooking tips I had chef friend give me some tips. You have to leave the skin on first of all, then pan seared and finish in the oven at a medium rare. I brine them as well for about 12 hours before hand. |
