Anyone have a suggestion as to where to shop for a new marine GPS unit?

Go check out the Academy in Portland. They have a huge selection of competitively priced models. I personally go with Lowrance. Its got me back to the dock safe and sound in the thickest of fog.

I work at West Marine and we have the Lowrance Elite 5 series on sale for $349 until February 5.

They come WITH a transdeucer and a navionics gold chip in the box. (Won't get that chip with the unit at Academy) Come see me.

David at shutupandfish.com will beat anybody's price hands down. I bought a Humminbird 1198 and a 101lb thrust minn kota trolling motor for my bass boat and saved about $750.

His name is David Goodson and his number is 972-822-9285.

He's out of Dallas and ships very quickly.

Would I be able to transfer my Garmin points onto this unit?

Can this GPS show maps in Google Earth format?

shutupandfish.com will redirect your browser to suspicious websites. Mine said need to update Flash Player and it was obviously not an Adobe link to download the update. My Flash is up to date anyway.

Be Very careful with that site. You may get more of a DEAL than a GPS.

The Elite series that's on sale CANNOT show google earth maps. The HDS series CAN with a navionics platinum chip.

As far as transferring the waypoints... I think you need to use this software ( http://www.gpsbabel.org/ ) and make sure your GPS data type is the same whenever you're formatting them for the transfer.

OR I found this method:

1. Save your Garmin waypoints to an SD card.
2. Use Garmin Mapsource which is a program that comes w/ the Bluechart CD.
3. Open up your waypoints in Mapsource and resave it in .gpx format (GPS Exchange)
4. Load them up on your Lowrance.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback, I liked that price but I really want to be able to see maps in GE on the next GPS so I guess I will ride the old Garmin a little longer.

I understand man! The garmin rep went over all their new products for 2014 with me a few weeks back and they are sweeeeeet. Garmin's mapping technology really has lowrance beat IMO.
