Got out late morning Tuesday. Weather was pretty good, low wind but the surf was still riled up.

Stopped and setup around 33miles down. Clear water with practically no weed. Nice whiting were easy as usual on dead shrimp. Soaked baits until dark but no solid hits.

Only one other crazy down here as far as I could see through the scopes and he headed north by 3. As per usual something had to stop working. This time it just happened to be the generator. After wrenching on it for a few minutes I realized I would be on DC power for the duration. Good thing I keep my invertor handy. Two is one and one is none, right?

Nothing like cooking fresh harvest on an open flame.

Christmas spirit struck I guess Wink

Nothing else to do but watch rods and cook. I'm pretty damn good at one of those things at least. Laughing

The surf kept cranking pretty good but that didnt stop me from trying to catch Christmas dinner.

Coastie Jayhawk and Dolphin cruised through but neither dropped off a holiday ham sandwich dammit! (TheRealLagunatic understands Laughing )

Around 2 I decided to change into some clean clothes right about the time Padre decided to set my present under the 8' fiberglass christmas tree. I've never fought a fish in my skivvies before haha!

She went 34" and fat. I'm damn lucky I landed her too. Think my drag was a bit too tight?

No more hits for the rest of the day. Not that I needed to grin any bigger after that one. I got bored so took some more dinner pics. I dunno who calls this roughing it but I think I prefer this to a restaurant any day.

Managed to stay dry and warm unlike my fire. Woke up Thurs morning to a nice chilly drizzle. I was close to soaked by the time I got a rod ready so I decided to pack it in.

This might just become a Christmas tradition.

One reason that I seldom use a snap. Reason that red was suppose to be caught. Nice catch, great report.

I only asked for a few minutes of her time, don't think it bothered her much. Never had an issue with snap swivels doing that before. Of course I usually fish the old man's hand built leaders instead of those store bought rigs. Lesson learned.

Nothing ever happens until it does my friend. With very few exceptions, I stopped using snaps of any kind decades ago because of occasional failures. Ditty with crimps, period. If some of y'all think they're great, knock yourself out using them. You WILL lose more than a few nice fish over time, fish that you would more than likely have landed with good line/leader and good old knots! Cool

Can't claim to have fished nearly as much as most folks here but everytime I've fished snaps without issue. I'll have to give them some thought next time I rig up for a trip.

Hopefully I'll drive you people nuts with reports now that I'm in the habit of stopping by the forum.

@Baffinboy - This trip was kind of short notice so I didn't find the grill I wanted. Going to have to visit some welder buddies soon for one that will last a good long time. That one is a walmart special but it seems like it might hold up better than what I expected. If you're interested PM me and let me know what dimensions your looking for so maybe I can get more than one made when I hit up the welders.

Great report!

As for snaps, been fishing since I was old enough to hold a fishing rod and have never had one fail, other than stuck shut. Really like Nick's take on them at Breakaway.
