I remember last year or the year before we had a discussion about flounder and somebody nonchalantly brought up catching a monster flounder. 32" I think, it was a state record that never got sent in. We asked him if he had a picture and he posted one of it on a ruler. Couldnt find it and Im going crazy locked up with this weather. Does anybody have the picture? I need motivation to go catch something! _________________

Not me recently, but back in the day, at the mouth of Lester Rolloff's channel (nine mile hole) I hauled in a 34" trash can lid....top fillets went an inch and a half thick, bottom three-quarters. Not braggin, but just sayin....blind squirrel. Best flounder ever!!!! _________________

Back in the "Day" as Chief Lefty said we would target the point of the 9 mile hole channel first thing every time we fished the cut. when the current was running to the north flounder would stage there for a good time after daylight and dragging a live shrimp across the point worked real well. Never got a trash can but as I remember they were all good sized.
As far as trash can lid flounder, my brother stuck a very large flounder on the west side drop-off of the cut and had to let it go when it worked its way into the deep water. Put his lantern out too. _________________ Off Shore Port Mansfield |

It was "justimm" on a thread started by "flounder daddy" back in July of 2012, if I remember correctly. "justimm" said he caught it in June or July in Copano near the Bayside area and won a rod and reel with his huge catch.

No flounder for me today, but I did catch this 20 lb. red this morning in "My neck of the woods!" on a "DOA Cal Minnow" in Arkansas Glow color. I was down to my last pack of these so I bought the last one on the rack at "Roy's this afternoon. |

Nice red! It had to be a rough cold morning on the water today! I was in a enclosed deer stand thinking it was pretty nippy!!! |

Come on Justin where is that pic?
Hell of a red GT! Almost made it out today but decided to study for finals and save it for nicer kayaking conditions. _________________

You definitely have to dress correctly and be in the "Right" frame of mind to be on the water in theses conditions. I always dress in layers and today was a three layer day! Here is the lure that I used this morning. It's the same lure I caught my 11 lb. flounder on five years ago in these same type conditions, less that a mile from where I caught this red. |
