In your best judgement what size of Bull Red would you use your Bull Tag for?
Taking the wife out for some fishing and she has yet to tag a bull red....wanted to see what the consensus might be? _________________ Life ain't right...until your fishing!!! |

| No more than a few inches over the limit. Once they get too big they are pretty wormy and not very good to eat. |

TexGator is right. A red pulling more than 30in would not get my tag. _________________ Fishing is my addiction |

This is lifted from a fisheries report from 1893. It still applies today.
Even then, they knew that really big red drum were just nasty.
This comes from:
Stevenson, C.H. 1893. Report on the Coast Fisheries of Texas. United States Commission of Fish and Fisheries 17:373-420. |

| Not only are they wormy and not good eating, but they are usually the breeders making more of those tender slot fish we all love to grill. (or fry in stans case) |

I generally don't
I tagged a 28.5 incher last year, but I can take that one fish per year or leave it. Honestly, I don't like taking the time to write on, tear out, and apply the tag. I'd rather just chunk him back and keep fishing. I mean you could use a solid 7-10 minutes filling that sucker out. _________________ Fish hard. You never know when you'll make you last trip south. |

That pretty interesting! I like seeing and reading that old stuff.
As far as the original question I don't know. I've caught plenty of big ones but never kept one. |

I would save it in case the new state records comes in on my line. Unless it's the day before my licence expires then i would keep an oversized red for one of my buddies to cook it. He'll eat any size of red. He has a knack for cooking things and making it taste good. _________________ You won't know if you don't go! |

personally i used my tag on my first bull (31) I wanted to throw him back but my other half was gun ho on taking it, so its sitting frozen. But it will be wrapped in bacon fairly soon thanks to an awesome recipe i found
the bigger they are the more they deserve to live. They have lived that long just to get to the "bull" size so they should just keep on livin _________________

| I have only tagged 1oversized red. That was before I started using circle hooks and the big girl engulfed the J-hook. She would not have survived. It was 33". BTW my biggest red to date is 45.5". |

I always save my tag in case I get one some day that swallows the hook or fails to revive. I'd hate to be in that situation tagless. _________________ JJ |
