| I am 13.5 miles on Culebra on the left right before 211. 2nd year on a 600 acre lease and only have seen 1 decent 8 that I took last year. Other than that mostly does and only a few trash bucks. The doe ratio is off big time I think. 1 morning we saw 14 does and 0 bucks. Lots of pigs although they taste gamey to me. They Smell like they taste. My reasoning is they are city pigs. I was trapping by government canyon before I got on this lease and it was the same thing. Even the small ones. I've hunted Brackettville for 33 years and never had a hog taste wild. Even our 200lb + pigs. My guess is its because of what they are eating but what do I know. Seen 3 gobblers on camera once and a young chocolate fallow buck last year but that's about it. I'm very close to the lake and heard there used to be a lot of axis by the lake but I haven't seen any other than 1 in a high fence by paradise canyon. Where about are you sherm? Anything good your way. I know the owners next door who 500 acres and they don't hunt. People across own a few thousand and same thing so thought for sure there be a few decent deer but I'm yet to see one. People across said they saw a nice 12 last year |

Im on 271 directly west of paradise canyon. We saw 5 deer the 1st year and 4 of the were on opening morning. Half the ranch got high fenced off in 07 by neighbors. Since then we got about 13 does and 10 bucks that frequent our little 180ac's. Every now and then we'll get a surprise buck or axis. The Schott clan owns our lease. They got property all over medina co. Our neighbors dont hunt on their 800acs abd they got s nice creek runnin threw it. Been tryin to get access to hunt that land as well. We mostly hunt pigs, I aint as mad at the deer as I used to be. I hunt with my camera more than anything anymore. But I get stoked over pigs. We usually get pigs end of Nov-mid Apr. Due to the crop seasons. This year, judging from the tracks, they're early and everywhere. _________________ B.O.H.I.C.A. buddy |
