Heading down to mustang island for the weekend for some fishing. I have been checking swellinfo.com for updates. Says 2-3 feet. How accurate is swell info from the boards experiences.

Its a good rough guide, but not very reliable. With a steady SE wind blowing all day friday it should be rough this weekend. Doesn't mean its not fishable!

3 - 5's are about the limit for the surf for me as the current gets a bit strong.

i use a bunch of things. swell info, magic seaweed, weather underground, aviation weather for winds, marine weather by bluefin (android), and NOAA bouy and data app (android) the noaa one is the most reliable, i can look at 42020 and the bouy at packery, see tide, moon rise, sunrise ect. between all of them i can get a pretty accurate guess. the only thing is there is really no wind calculation on the beach, and as you know the wind chop is normally worse than the swell.

On October 4, swellinfo had shoulder-head swell and noted 4-5 ft. We were at the sticks, first time ever on this beach, staring at a locked PINS gate. When the ocean came up thru the screenroom at lowtide, quickly realized we needed to pack up in the dark and get the heck outta there. Water ended up getting to the dunes that night and stayed thru Saturday. Still trying to figure out how to correctly interpret the info presented, and Karen chruning in the middle of the gulf definitely brought the ocean height up, but when it says swells are to your head or over, can you pretty much count on water to the dunes?
