We catch blue crabs mostly. When crabbing from a shallow bank all you need is a 10ft string/twine with a chicken neck tied on the end and a dip net. Or if on a pier a crab net or a trap/pot usually pots are left over night. From the bank stake out about 10 lines you will know when a crab gets on one because the line will tighten up. Then slowly pull it toward you and when you see it scoop it up with the long handled dip net. We also have another crab called the Stone crab from which only 1 claw is removed and the crab let go to grow another. You can read up on the laws in the TPW handbook. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| Is there certain areas I should try? Are these crabs eating size or used for bait? |

Legal eating table size crabs. Just pick out a spot around some piers or structure, Packey channel, canals, harbours. It's like fishing, except they call it crabbing. There is some really good crabbing along the Browsville ship channel if you ever go down that way. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

| If you use a metal trap, be sure to follow the TPW rules on when you can legally run your trap. 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. I have no idea why they don't want you checking the trap at night. I use a crab net, and you can pull it up as often as you want. There is probably a good reason, or at least a reason, for the distinction. I just don't know what it is. |

Because no one can see you break the law when it's dark. Just a matter of keeping everyone on the up and up. _________________ "Ya'll must eat a lot of fish" |

many yrs ago we took wives and kids to some pilings just west of the ferryboat landing... first bridge after leaving Port A...
we gave them some line, clips and old dead shrimp, a bucket and they had a blast!
hollerin', screaming and laughing... crabs crawling out of the bucket, them jumping aroud and my bud and I just sat, drank beer and laughed....
since it was on our way home, the crabs were released for others to enjoy. _________________ the creepy uncle that scares the kids.... |

Looks to me like there are a couple of motels in the bluff just off CPID where you could catch a limit of crabs real quick. _________________ Now that food has replaced my sex life I can't even get into my own pants!!!!!!!!

Bucket of blue crabs==LOT OF WORK!
But man are they good eating. You can also just walk the flats and scoop them up with a net. Be sure to check size limits...and no sponge crabs (eggs). _________________ Why is it that these days sales people seem to be as honest as I am knowledgeable? |
