Water conditions look a lot better yesterday. From the Kennedy bridge to the mouth of Baffin bay there was green water and in some cases the water on the flats around the KRS was just flat out clear.
The current was running real hard in from the Bay and Packery as far south
as BI and the tides were coming back up.
Looks like between the rain and the tides coming back up from those north winds we might just be seeing the last of the ugly water and high salinity levels in the Upper ULM.
If your out on the water the next few days take a look at how much a good rain and some fresh water from CC Bay can help our bay system get back to a healthy state.
As far as the Baffin Bay area, I didn't go down that far so can't give you
a report.

For the first time in way over a month I saw bait fish working along Laguna Shores Drive this morning on my way to work. Things are looking a lot better!! _________________

ST | I saw it yesterday (and picked up a few fish) and I HOPE you are right. Now give me my SE wind back and life may be normal again. Dang wind switch killed an unreal bite I had (ugly big trout). Noticed a little current moving around the entrance to nighthawk and the big girls were on hand to smack the bait. Wind switched and it just died. _________________ Wish I Were in Baffin |

Coming over the Causeway yesterday afternoon, the water looked better than it has in a very long time. Even at the corner by the Bluff, you could easily make out the bottom and the water had a definite "greenish" look to it. |

I think we're past the worst in the ULM but as for the back of Baffin without almost any water flow and the VERY high salinity levels it might take a lot longer. No fresh water coming from fresh water flows.
Need a storm to fix it.

There's a low-pressure system working now in the eastern gulf. If the jet stream will move north, we should get some of it. Here's hoping. _________________ E Pluribus Unum |

Reading the observations over the last few months I get the general impression that the causeway has not acted as a significant dam to the Laguna. Does anyone else agree?
When the high winds blew from the SE the BT penetrated into CC bay and the south began to clear. When the tides dropped weren't there reports of the BT passing through Packery into the gulf acting like a dye marker? Now green water is restored along the KRS and I believe someone said the backyard is looking better. All this motion seemed primarily from the south to the north. With rising tides I'd expect water to be pulled in from the north. Kind of an exhale and inhale. That just seems to be a lot of water passing thru the causeway dam. |

I wonder how much shorter a period of time the brown tide would have lasted in the Laguna without the causeway/dam. I have always been curios
as if the brown tide effected the upper Laguna Madre before the causeway was built. We know it bloomed in Baffin for thousands of years. Every biologist I've talked with has said raising the causeway and creating more water flow from CC Bay into the Laguna would do nothing but good.

| Thought when they redid the JFK that it was to be raised for the full length. That, obviously, did not happen. |

Me too. I asked why it wasn't raised (after the fact) and was told it would cost too much.
I guess we have people that can put a price on our resources for us.
