The weed onslaught seems to have been interrupted by a definite change in current. Little fresh weed was rolling in yesterday pm (low tide) or this morning (high...sort-of...tide). It has been replaced by old manatee grass pieces, with some medium to large man-o-war mixed in for good measure. Surf was 2 rows at 2 feet, and the water color has gone in the toilet. The nice water is nowhere to be seen anymore (4th bar and out). The current looks to be running very strong south to north, even when the winds are down. Saw quite a few dead hardheads, so that is likely an indication of whats biting...... Beachcombing score - 0 out of 5. Crying or Very sad

Hope those conditions don't get down to Port Mansfield. That would sure mess my tarpon fishing up!

UPDATED:

Took the youngest daughter out to JP Luby for some surfing action - YO, this afternoon, and the water was indeed FREEZING.... Came home and checked the TCOON station and it had dropped 10 DEGREES overnight! Shocked

All I can say is that is usually not a good sign in the coming months. That which shall remain unspoken will indeed remain a distant memory.

But, MAN.... that water was cold!!!! Cool

I suspected a cold water upwelling Saturday, water looked great, a hair choppy but still thought we were going to smoke the fish. Had friends as far south as the 30 and we wer on Mustang Island, we both reported hardheads and 1 trout and a weird brown line past the 3rd bar the length of the beach, those hardheads usually indicate a weird temperature change

Ok guys! I'm a newbie at this. Does this probably mean the surf will be dirty and fishless for a while? Hope it doesn't ruin my pins trip next month. I'm scurred now! Shocked

The S. Packery was dirty and full of weeds all the way past the jetties last night. Caught a few hardheads and that was it.....

In the most oblique terms I can muster, "let's just say that these mid June and July upwelling events have been previously tied to late summer-early fall wide-spread mortality events of fish on the beach"... Confused

That's as specific as I am going to get [knock on wood]...

{Keep your fingers and toes crossed that I am completely off-base} Neutral

Here is the past week or so record of temp along the lower coast. The blue line is Port A, the green line is Bob Hall, and the red line is South Padre.

Data obtained from the Conrad Blucher Institute for Surveying and Science, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

It is most dramatic at Bob Hall, when the temp fell 10+ degrees in a very short amount of time. It started to cool down south at the end of last week, and made quite the statement here Tuesday evening (which coincides with the different "stuff" washing up in the surf that I originally posted about).

All fingers crossed - all the time.

Looks like the temperature bounced back quite a bit. Has anyone been out today to verify?

Did a little research from "Central Scrutinizer post", Thanks ...
"Data obtained from the ((Conrad Blucher Institute)) for Surveying and Science, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi."

And found this http://lighthouse.tamucc.edu/map/:tcoon:active:,:noaa:active:texas:?type=hybrid&-action=html&cluster=n

Looks like BobHall at 79,Packery at 87 and PortA at 80.2...Cool site+++
