I was stoked to get my first pair of fishing shades, in particular, Costas. I purchased my first pair last year in September. I have always been an advocate of cheap shades because they never last or get broken. Anyway I got my first pair... Harpoons 580g (glass lenses for those not in the know). Retail of 250 bucks plus or minus. Now people take me serious right?... I'm wearing COSTAS!! Anyway I absolutely loved them!!!! Then I dropped them in February!!! And broke them.....
No big deal... Great warranty right? It was my fault. They fell off my hat after a wave in the early AM heading out of PA. I had "Cabelz" but they weren't cinched. I'm ready for the 60 bucks everyone Says it costs online. I mailed them in April and bought a pair of plastic beaters to use in the meantime... Mayas 580p ( the best they have to offer in plastic 150+ retail).
This weekend I got a call that my glass lenses were finally off of back order (2 months later) and it would be 99 bucks to fix and 17 dollars shipping and handling. This is on top of the 10 I spent shipping them there. 126 in total to fix... TO FIX!!
Here is what the Maya's (my second plastic pair) I bought in February look like with their weak hinges and poor adhesive on the logo. I don't mind paying good money for good stuff and service but I regret 100% my decision to spend as much money on this brand as I did. It isn't even worth it to send in my plastic glasses for service....

| In my experience, they treat frame issues very differently than lens issues. For lenses, they basically send you a brand new pair for about half price, again in my experience, which is one pair. That's about 60 if you have the bottom end lenses, but over a 100 for 580g's. For frame issues, ear pieces at least, they put new stuff on and send them back for whatever their standard SH fee is (my experience is 2 pairs here). I'm not saying it's good or bad, my only point is that you might find the repair of your second pair to be quite a bit cheaper than the first go 'round, if you want to send them in. |

Was about to start a new thread about scoring a discounted pair on ebay, but decided to hijack yours...please forgive.
Here is what I won for the mere price of 169.83, delivered....
Item Title: Costa Del Mar HAMMERHEAD Silver Teak Frame w/ Green 580g Lenses *NEW* w/ Case
Retail price $249.00 Good deal??
On my 4th pair. Probably need to join a self-help group. _________________

I get my Coastas at T. Roberts on Corona for those of you who want presciption lenses. He does a lot of guides, hunters, and those who play golf. _________________ I LIKE MINE FRIED. |

I am always hard on my sunglasses, which is why I don't like to spend the $$ on a good pair. I recently purchased a pair of costas on ebay for $69! Plastic lenses of course and framed for big heads like myself. I really like them and if I brake them at least I didn't spend too much on them. i was thinking about a pair with glass lenses but still worried about the quality and price. _________________ Wish I was fishing. |

I just sent in a pair of Maui Jim glasses that one of the temples broke off where they screwed to the hinge, falling to the ground and scratched one lense. My glasses were just over the two year warranty but I said what do I have to loose so last Wednesday I UPS 'ed them in with the warranty/repair form and authorization to spend up to $50.00 on repairs and Friday I received conformation of arrival and Monday I recieved email stating they would replace both temples and lensese and new nose pads for $10.00 processing fee and would be shipped Priority USPS Monday which should put them here Friday. I don't know what more you could ask for from a company, I'll be a Maui Jim customer from now on. _________________ Salad, Salad, everywhere and not a bite to eat. |

I really like my glasses but I am also very disappointed in the customer service and quality of their plastics. Not worth investing any more money in them.
My buddy is a die hard Maui Jim fan he tried to talk me into getting them. His repair service was very similar to yours. |

Zennioptical.com. I order my glasses thru them. Usually a LOT less than $100 for prescription sunglasses. They can do just regular glass lenses for you.
I have 5 pair of sunglasses, all different colors. |

| I'm on my 3rd pair of Costa stringer 580's. (1 in the ski canal) (1 in the lake). Now I have a floatie!! Anywho they are stretched out and have a minor scratch here n there. I wanted to send them in but this concerns me. Anyone else have experience with Costas C/S dept? I may browse some Maui jims myself. |

| I wear the coasta 7mile wire frames. I used to have Maui Jim, Big Kahunas but they quit making them plus they were very expensive. They do have good customer service. So does Costa, I never had a problem with them. |

I have a set of Oakley Five Squared Ducati's...
All plastic, no metal... going on 4 years, no issues. So I've got no idea how their customer service is. That's the way it's supposed to be. |

I have had Costas for several years now and have great luck with them. The tint discolored on the outside of mine after they were a couple of years old, and the rubber parts were falling apart so I sent them in paying their normal handling fee. One week later I received a box from them with a brand new pair at no extra charge.
My one complaint with Costa's is the rubber/silicone nose piece. They seem to degrade after time and start coming apart, then get a silicone like stuff on the lenses that is extremely hard to get off. |

| It seems the spray sunblock eats the rubber off mine. |
